Finance Analyst - Corporate Finance - BD and M&A

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE

The Financial Analyst - BD and M&A will be responsible for the execution of financial analysis to support the executive leadership team on critical business decisions. This role will perform duties to support corporate development, business development, strategic planning, life cycle management and general corporate finance activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• •Corporate and Business Development
• •Prepare company/asset valuation analyses on potential licensing and M&A transactions
• •Build merger consequences models to evaluate potential acquisitions
• •Evaluate in-licensing opportunities from a financial/business perspective
• •Test sensitivity of deal economics to variances in key assumptions, including synergies
• •Contribute to preparation and presentation of deal summaries and recommendations to senior management

• •Lifecyle Management and Strategic Planning
• •Build and update long-range planning models and assist in preparation of BoD presentations
• •Perform discounted cash flow analyses to support lifecycle management of pipeline assets
• •Perform company-level and project-level valuation analysis
• •Perform specific value-added analyses, e.g., resource allocation, profitability analysis, sensitivity/scenario analyses, benchmarking
• •Evaluate and compare the financial benefits of life cycle management initiatives/alternatives
• •Build analysis to support business partner recommendations on investment/divestment decisions to executive management and Board of Directors
• •Build and maintain effective relationships with cross-functional stakeholders to support collaboration, alignment, and successful execution of business priorities

• •Corporate Finance
• •Develop and standardize financial analysis models employing best-in-class financial analysis techniques, including scenario modelling
• •Assist in development of cost-effective strategies for financing the company's business initiatives and optimizing the company's capital structure
• •Perform comparable company analysis on biotechnology peers in a broad number of areas including financings, capital structure, deal-making, share performance, etc.
• •Create company profiles on biotech and pharma peers
• •Maintain corporate weighted average cost of capital (WACC) calculation
• •Proactively monitors industry news, trends, and market dynamics

• •Performs other duties as assigned
• •Complies with all policies and standards

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education

• •BS/BA degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience; or
• •MBA degree in related discipline and 1 year of related experience; or,
• •Equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

• •Experience in investment banking/management consulting preferred
• •Experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry preferred
• •Experience working with cross-functional teams is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

• •Strong expertise in financial modeling and financial statement analysis (GAAP and non-GAAP)
• •Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, FactSet (or comparable financial analytics tools e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ)
• •Advanced Excel modelling
• •Strong analytical, strategic, problem solving and organizational skills
• •Strong attention to detail
• •Strong communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
• •Ability to navigate ambiguity and perform analyses in situations with incomplete information and evolving assumptions
• •Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities
• •Adaptability to evolving business needs, priorities, and approaches
• •Demonstrated understanding of operational drivers of the financial analyses
• •Ability to translate financial analyses into clear business implications and communicate them effectively to cross-functional teams and leadership

Preferred:

• •Expertise in evaluating and modeling various funding arrangements (e.g., revolver, term loans, equity issuances, etc.)
• •Knowledgeable about the biotech / pharma industry

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $94,000 - $134,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
