Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a FIRE CHIEF - Title 5, Position Description Number T6329000 and is part of the WI CRTC, Wisconsin Air National Guard.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Fire Protection Flight. Develops goals and objectives that integrate organization and Civil Engineering objectives. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Directs, coordinates, and overseeswork through subordinate supervisors. Represents the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Assumes full charge at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed. Determines need, budgets for, and recommends acquisition of additional and/or different fire protection, firefighting, and specialized rescue equipment, contract services, formal training, etc. *** This is NOT an all-inclusive list of duties. ***

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work experience or military service that demonstrated the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position. To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have at least 1 year equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11). Experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; operation of fire communications equipment; controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. 2-3 years' experience operating in a combination department with Air National Guard and State employees. Experience operating at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controlled Index C airport with Air National Guard, Army National Guard, Commercial Carrier, private aviation, and corporately owned aircraft. Experience operating in Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge required areas under the supervision of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Familiarity with Mutual Aid with municipal and county departments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CERTIFICATIONS: Must be certified by the DOD Fire Fighter Certification system as Fire Officer IV (includes Fire Officer I, II, III), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I), HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations), and Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II).

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate level education preferred. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims.
