Job Summary
The Forklift Driver supports production and distribution efforts across retail outlets and warehouse environments, ensuring the efficient movement, storage, and handling of merchandise and materials. This role operates a forklift and other powered equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count products. The Forklift Driver is responsible for loading and unloading deliveries, transporting goods throughout the facility, and supporting inventory accuracy. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, organized, and efficient operations across retail outlet floors, warehouse storage areas, and distribution spaces.
Example Duties and Activities
- Safely unload inbound shipments and transport products to appropriate outlet or warehouse storage areas; efficiently stack and store merchandise.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate, properly documented, and free of damage; report quality variances.
- Pull and prepare products for shipment or distribution, ensuring correct quantities and product types are selected.
- Perform order picking and staging in a manner that meets operational and customer service standards.
- Move products between staging, storage, retail outlet floors, and trailers using forklifts or other powered equipment.
- Load and unload materials using proper techniques to ensure safe weight distribution and prevent damage.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, double stackers, and other equipment safely and efficiently following established procedures.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance; document safety checks.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and physical inventories; ensure proper stock rotation.
- Keep work areas (including warehouse, dock, and outlet spaces) clean, organized, and secure.
- Follow all OSHA and SDS safety standards and promote a culture of safety in all environments.
- Assist with general facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance as needed.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, outlet team members, and leadership to support daily operations.
Required Competencies
- Degree and Credential Requirements - Current Forklift Operator certification or ability to obtain.
- Knowledge of Warehouse Processes – Possesses familiarity with receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping to ensure continuous efficient warehousing operations.
- Teamwork - Works well with others and makes valued contributions to the outputs of others in order to assist the team or project to achieve the required outputs.
- Communication Skills - Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to recognize the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Reads, comprehends, and writes simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in work-related documents.
- Mathematical Aptitude - Is able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs; skid counts, carton counts, and computing total quantities.
- Adaptability - Adjusts priorities quickly in response to frequently changing circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude. Continually assesses tasks and responds to those requiring extra attention. Foresees and seeks to avoid crisis management.
- Safety Awareness - Recognizes the risks in activities, applies the right measures to control and manage those risks, and ensures all safety protocols are followed.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Preferred Competencies
Technical Knowledge – Has familiarity with computers and relevant software including basic computer and Internet navigation skills.

- Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check. Additionally, will submit to and pass a 10-point drug screen pre-hire, during promotions, and if accidents occur.
- Hard to Very Hard Physical Work - Is able to spend time in excess of 8 hours standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and crouching. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms. Can climb, balance, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather conditions, and moving mechanical parts. Will be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. There is a risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- Warehouse Environment – Is able to work in a warehouse/outlet environment that may not be fully climate-controlled, with regular exposure to seasonal temperature fluctuations, including heat, cold, and humidity. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as appropriate.
- Visual Acuity - Has close, distance, peripheral, color vision abilities, and is able to adjust focus.
