Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that works long-term to guarantee society's access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future – what matters is how we produce them. Become a part of us and drive change for generations to come.
Your opportunity
Are you interested in exploration geology and motivated by turning geological knowledge into new discoveries? As an exploration geologist at Garpenberg, you will contribute to the discovery and development of future mineral resources. You will be part of an experienced exploration team where your geological expertise and perspectives help shape how we explore and identify new opportunities.
The position is based in Garpenberg, a full-time position with regular office hours, Monday to Friday.
Who you will work with
You will join the Garpenberg Exploration team, where you will become one of six geologists. The team works collaboratively while giving each person the opportunity to take responsibility for their own work and priorities.
Your network will extend beyond the immediate team. You will work closely with Mine Geology in Garpenberg and collaborate with colleagues and consultants across Boliden's wider Exploration organisation, including geologists and geophysicists from other Boliden sites. Depending on the project, you will also interact with drilling contractors, environmental and permitting specialists, landowners and other stakeholders.
What you will do
Your work will span different stages of the exploration process, combining field-based geology with interpretation, modelling and project activities. You will use geological information to build knowledge, identify exploration potential and support well-informed decisions as projects move forward.
Key responsibilities are:
- Evaluate geological data and develop exploration ideas and targets.
- Plan and conduct geological fieldwork, including bedrock mapping and geochemical sampling.
- Log and interpret drill core and integrate new findings with existing geological information.
- Plan and coordinate exploration drilling together with colleagues and contractors.
- Interpret and model geological data using GIS, Leapfrog and other relevant tools.
- Document and communicate exploration results through maps, geological models, presentations and technical reports.
- Contribute to safe, responsible and well-planned exploration activities.
What you bring
Qualifications are:
- University degree in Geology, Geoscience or an equivalent relevant field.
- Several years of relevant professional experience in mineral exploration, including practical field experience.
- Experience in drill core logging.
- Experience using GIS and geological modelling software such as Leapfrog, or relevant comparable software.
- Good written and spoken English, including the ability to communicate geological findings and prepare reports.
- Valid EU Category B driving license for automatic and manual gearbox
Merits are:
- Experience in field-based or greenfield mineral exploration.
- Experience in base metal exploration.
- Experience with geochemical sampling and bedrock mapping.
- Experience in planning or managing drilling programs and working with drilling contractors.
- Knowledge of structural geology, mineralogy and geochemistry.
- Swedish language skills. If you do not speak Swedish today, a willingness to learn is valuable.
We value potential and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.
