About Rare Candy

We’re a leading marketplace dedicated to trading card games—Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, and more—used by millions of collectors to buy, sell, and showcase their collections. Our operations team powers the logistics that ensure trading cards and collectibles move quickly and safely between sellers and collectors. We grew almost 30x last year, and we aren't slowing down.

The Role

We're hiring a Growth Marketer to take our programmatic SEO program to the next level and help refine our lifecycle marketing.

Search already works for us. Our blog drives over a million search impressions a week and converts well. But a blog only scales as fast as people can write. We have data on every card, set, product, and price, and we want pages for all of it. Your job is to build the system that gets there. You'll find the page types collectors are searching for, build them with automation and AI, and keep quality high across thousands of pages.

You'll also work alongside our lifecycle team on email, push, and experiments that get new collectors active and keep them coming back. Over time, you'll grow into owning either activation or retention.

What Success Looks Like

First 30 days: You know what's working in our blog and why: which topics, formats, and intent drive impressions and signups. You've mapped where programmatic pages can extend that, and which page types to build first. You've learned our lifecycle setup and shipped your first campaigns with the team.

By day 90:

Your programmatic roadmap is approved and in motion.

The first programmatic page types are live, starting with current Pokémon sets.

A repeatable build and quality-control workflow is running.

Reporting connects search impressions to signups and revenue across both the blog and programmatic pages.

You're running lifecycle campaigns alongside the team, and you've launched at least one measurable activation or retention experiment.

By the end of year one:

Programmatic pages cover Pokémon and at least one more game.

Programmatic pages are a meaningful share of our organic signups, alongside the blog.

You're ready to own activation or retention.

What You'll Do

Own the programmatic SEO roadmap and build operation.

Use what's working in our blog to find page types, keyword clusters, and internal-linking opportunities worth scaling.

Prioritize current Pokémon sets first, then MTG, Lorcana, and Riftbound as capacity allows.

Build programmatic pages using our card and product data, automation tools, and AI.

Work with engineering on structured data, indexing, and technical SEO when it needs their hands.

Build Instapack pages ahead of launches and coordinate timing with the team.

Set quality checks for accuracy, duplication, and brand voice, and hold every batch to them.

Track rankings, impressions, organic traffic, activation, and revenue.

Partner with our lifecycle team on email, push, segmentation, activation, and retention campaigns.

Help test whether offers like bonus candy actually improve retention.

Run a weekly SEO production and performance review.

A Day in Your Life at Rare Candy

You start the morning in Search Console. Pages for last month's Pokémon set are picking up impressions, but a few are cannibalizing our blog posts, so you adjust the internal links and the template.

Midday, you're tweaking the automation that pulls fresh price data into set pages, so they update without anyone touching them.

In the afternoon, you QA a batch of 200 new pages against your checklist and fix the dozen that miss.

You end the day with the lifecycle team, reviewing results from a push test on new users who scanned their first card but haven't bought yet.

You Might Be a Fit If

You have 2 to 4 years in SEO, organic growth, lifecycle marketing, or a related growth role.

You've done hands-on SEO on a large or data-heavy site. Programmatic SEO experience is a big plus.

You're comfortable building with automation and AI tools, and you've used them to produce at a scale one person couldn't do by hand.

You know Google Search Console, analytics tools, and keyword research tools well.

You're comfortable working with large datasets and templates.

You've worked on email, push, segmentation, or retention campaigns, even if it wasn't your main job.

You know where AI gets things wrong, and you build checks to catch it.

You're a strong project manager. You keep writers and timelines moving, and people know where things stand without having to ask.

You check your own work before anyone else sees it, and you bring decisions rather than drafts.

You're into Pokémon, TCGs, collectibles, or another enthusiast community.

Bonus Points

Experience at a marketplace or catalog-heavy site where every item, set, or listing gets a page.

Experience with Customer.io , Iterable, or a similar lifecycle tool.

Why Join Us Now

Take a search channel that already works and build the programmatic layer that scales it.

Work directly with our Director of Growth and engineering team.

A clear path to owning a piece of lifecycle as you grow.

A salary range of 70,000-85,000, plus equity.

Full benefits: health, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), and a wellness stipend.

A monthly dogfooding budget to spend on cards, because we hire people who love this hobby.

Our Hiring Process

30-min intro chat with Taylor (Director of Growth).

Working session (45 minutes): walk us through a site you think does programmatic SEO well and how you'd tell if it's working.

Paid exercise (about 3 hours, $200): we'll send you a slice of our card and set data. Show us one page type you'd build, the keyword logic behind it, how you'd build it with automation and AI, and how you'd QA 1,000 of those pages before they go live.

Panel with our Growth team and engineering.

Reference calls and an offer within 1 week of the final interview.

How to Apply

Apply through our Ashby posting and answer these:

Tell us about an SEO project you worked on. What did you own, what did you build, and what happened to traffic?

Tell us about a workflow you automated. What tools did you use, and what did it let you do that you couldn't before?

What's something collectors search for that nobody answers well yet?

Rare Candy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate individuality, from Pikachu collectors to Planeswalker pros, and are committed to building an inclusive team.
