Description
About the role
Fermi America is building one of the largest private energy and AI data center campuses in the U.S., combining gas, nuclear, solar and grid power to serve hyperscale compute. We are scaling fast from a lean founding team into a multi-site organization of corporate, engineering, construction and operations staff.
The Director of Human Resources builds and runs the HR function that makes that growth work. You will own HR operations, employee relations, compliance, HR systems and HR business partnering across the company. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set policy and strategy while still doing the work yourself as the team grows.
Key responsibilities
HR strategy and leadership
- Partner with the Chief People Officer to set the people strategy, HR roadmap and annual priorities.
- Build and lead the HR team, including HR business partners, HR operations and generalists.
- Advise executives and site leaders on org design, workforce planning and change management.
HR operations and systems
- Own the HRIS, payroll interface, onboarding and offboarding, and employee data integrity.
- Design scalable processes for job architecture, leveling, headcount approval and position management, in partnership with Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards.
- Build HR reporting on headcount, attrition, time to productivity and engagement.
Employee relations and compliance
- Lead investigations, performance management and corrective action, with sound documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal and Texas employment law, FLSA classification, I-9, EEO, OSHA-related HR obligations and multi-state requirements.
- Write and maintain the employee handbook and core HR policies.
- Manage HR risk across a mixed workforce of employees, contractors and staffing partners on active construction sites.
Performance, development and culture
- Run performance review, calibration and promotion cycles.
- Launch manager training, leadership development and engagement programs.
- Shape a culture that holds together corporate, engineering and field teams.
Total rewards partnership
Work with the VP of Total Rewards on compensation bands, benefits administration, leave programs and equity communication.
Requirements
Required
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 4+ years leading HR teams or a full HR function.
- Generalist depth across employee relations, HR operations, compliance, performance management and HR systems.
- Experience scaling HR in a high-growth company, roughly doubling headcount or more.
- Working knowledge of U.S. employment law, with Texas experience strongly preferred.
- Track record of implementing or overhauling an HRIS (e.g. Workday, UKG, Rippling, ADP).
- Bachelor's degree in HR, business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred
- HR leadership in energy, utilities, power generation, data centers, EPC or heavy construction.
- Experience supporting field and site-based workforces alongside corporate teams.
- Exposure to a pre-IPO or newly public company environment.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification.
What makes someone great here
- Builds systems from scratch without waiting for perfect conditions.
- Earns credibility with both executives and field supervisors.
- Exercises calm, fair judgment on sensitive employee issues.
