Inside Counter Sales Specialist

Goldsboro Builders Supply is seeking a customer-focused and motivated Counter Sales Specialist to join our Kinston Builders Supply location. This role serves as the first point of contact for many of our customers, including contractors, builders, remodelers, and homeowners. The ideal candidate enjoys helping customers find solutions, has strong communication skills, and takes pride in providing exceptional service. Experience in building materials, hardware, lumber, or construction products is preferred but not required for candidates with a strong customer service and sales background. Position Summary:

Acts as primary salesperson for walk-in customer traffic. Interacting with customers to understand their needs and recommending product solutions. Process orders, receive payments, and assist customer with delivery or pick-up process.

Customer Service & Sales

• •Greet and assist customers in a professional, friendly, and timely manner.
• •Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
• •Provide information regarding product features, availability, pricing, promotions, and special orders.
• •Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service and product knowledge.
• •Upsell and cross-sell complementary products when appropriate.

Order Processing

• •Accurately enter customer orders and process sales transactions using the point-of-sale system.
• •Collect and process payments, including cash, checks, credit cards, and account charges.
• •Coordinate customer pickups and deliveries to ensure timely fulfillment.
• •Assist customers with special-order products and communicate expected delivery timelines.

Product Knowledge

• •Develop and maintain knowledge of lumber, building materials, millwork, hardware, and related construction products.
• •Stay informed about new products, promotions, and inventory availability.
• •Answer customer questions and provide practical product recommendations.

Teamwork & Operations

• •Collaborate with warehouse, delivery, and sales team members to ensure an outstanding customer experience.
• •Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and professional sales counter and showroom environment.
• •Support inventory management initiatives and merchandising efforts as needed.
• •Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required

• •High School Diploma or GED.
• •Strong customer service and communication skills.
• •Basic computer and point-of-sale system proficiency.
• •Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• •Professional and positive attitude.

Preferred

• •Associate degree or higher.
• •Previous sales, customer service, or retail experience.
• •Experience in lumber, building materials, hardware, construction, or home improvement products.
• •Knowledge of contractor and residential building applications.
