Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games.
This is an IT Ops Engineer who owns networking as their domain. It is not a network-only role, and it is not a role for a career network architect. It is built for someone who came up through IT operations and went deep on networking, and who wants to keep broadening from there. You work the full employee technology surface alongside the rest of IT Ops and carry the shared queue, and you own connectivity end to end as the domain where you go deepest. You are measured by leverage and outcomes, not tickets touched.
What you will do
Own the office and remote network as a reliable, monitored system: wireless, wired LAN and switching, DNS, DHCP, IP address management (IPAM), VPN, and Zero Trust access.
Run network monitoring, and manage configuration through automation and version control where the platform supports it.
Own the networking MSP relationship as a technical partner: hold them to outcomes, own the escalation path, and make sure what they build lands back documented and operable by our team.
Work the shared IT support queue alongside the team, helping Discordians with their day-to-day IT needs. This is a standing part of the role for everyone on the team.
Look past the individual ticket to the workflow underneath: find the recurring breakdowns, automate them away, and measure the result in time and risk saved.
Participate in on-call rotations.
What you should have
Deep, hands-on corporate and enterprise networking: wireless, switching, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, VPN and Zero Trust access.
Generalist knowledge across identity (e.g. Okta), endpoint management (e.g. Jamf, Intune), SaaS management: enough to carry your share of the queue.
Real automation chops: comfortable scripting, building no-code and low-code workflows, and using AI to build automation faster. You reach for automation before a runbook.
A business-problem mindset, strong full-stack troubleshooting instincts, and a collaborative, low-ego, secure-by-design posture with clear written communication.
5+ years of experience managing IT systems in high growth tech companies.
Bonus points
Network certifications (CCNA, CCNP) or equivalent demonstrated depth.
Exposure to SOC 2 or SOX access-review processes.
Background in high-growth consumer tech and multi-region support.
For this role, the Hiring Manager needs this person to be in the office 3 days a week.
