About us

We're an independent European digital product studio with a strong track record of delivering market-defining strategies and products for enterprises and governments. With about 200 talented people across three countries, premium AI capabilities and a diverse portfolio of international clients, we define, design and ship high-quality digital products, strategies and software. From global cloud-based platforms and large-scale apps to medical devices, banking software and augmented reality experiences. In a nutshell: if it lives and breathes digital, it’s what we do best.

Become a part of our team

At In The Pocket, you join a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, strategists and data specialists who care about the work as much as the people they work with. We work in small, autonomous teams that stay close to our clients and their users, and we give everyone the space to take ownership, speak up and grow. You’ll learn from colleagues across our studios, ship products that reach thousands or even millions of people and help shape what digital can do for leading organisations in Europe.

What you’ll do

Design, develop, and implement backend APIs using secure and efficient programming languages and frameworks.

Migrate and manage cloud infrastructure on platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Automate backend deployments and infrastructure provisioning using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform.

Optimise cloud resource utilisation for cost-effectiveness and scalability.

Implement robust security measures to protect our applications and data in the cloud. (OWASP)

Troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues.

Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations in cloud technologies.

Effectively integrate AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex, etc) into the development workflow to optimize code writing, code reviews, and overall productivity.

Who you are

Excellent knowledge of Java and of the JVM ecosystem. Kotlin experience is a plus, not a requirement.

Excellent knowledge of frameworks and the judgement to pick the right one in the right context. Examples are the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring core, Spring Data, Spring AI) or Kotlin variants like Ktor. Plus the tooling around it (Gradle or Maven).

Proven experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Good knowledge of authentication technologies such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML.

Good knowledge of database technologies Relational, Documents, (MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, Postgres).

Good understanding of messaging and broker systems (Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, Kafka, SNS/ SQS).

Solid grasp of common software engineering practices: OO principles, modern design patterns, test-driven development, continuous integration and continuous deployment.

Good understanding of security concepts and best practices (OWASP).

Good understanding of DevOps practices (infrastructure as code (terraform), observability, CI/CD)

Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

A passion for building high-quality, maintainable, scalable, and secure software.

You apply AI tools at an advanced level to accelerate high-quality delivery, and you critically validate what comes out of them (e.g., Claude, Codex, etc).
