Role Purpose
The Electrical Design Lead Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of electrical systems and associated documentation across industrial and process-related projects, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and company procedures. The role involves producing electrical calculations, schematics, SLDs, cable schedules, and technical specifications while maintaining design integrity, revision control, and documentation accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
The Electrical Design Engineer will lead a team of professional electrical design engineers, providing technical guidance, promoting engineering best practices, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, compliant, and buildable solutions.
Working closely with project, manufacturing, procurement, and site teams, the role supports project delivery, installation, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and handover activities, resolving technical challenges and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
We invite applications from experienced Electrical Design Engineers with a background in industrial, manufacturing, building services, or process industries, and a strong understanding of electrical design, engineering documentation, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
EICA Design & Technical Leadership
Lead the development of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation designs for industrial and process-related projects.
Produce and approve design documentation including load calculations, control architecture, instrument specifications, cable schedules, panel designs, and functional design specifications.
Ensure all design work complies with BS 7671, the Machinery Directive, HASAWA, and other relevant standards.
Provide technical leadership, standardization, and guidance to engineering teams.
Team Management & Delivery
Manage the EICA scope across multiple concurrent projects from concept to commissioning.
Develop project scopes of work.
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs and supervise junior engineers and subcontractors.
Ensure milestones and quality expectations are consistently met.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
Provide senior-level technical support and mentorship to internal teams, site personnel, and clients.
Conduct site surveys, inspections, FAT/SAT testing, and field troubleshooting.
Resolve technical issues during design, installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
Meetings & Stakeholder Management

On-Site Installation & Commissioning Support
Support or oversee installation activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
Work directly with installation teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Participate in commissioning, integration, and handover activities.
Electrical Drawing Mark-ups & Revisions
Review, mark up, and update electrical drawings (schematics, wiring, cable schedules) to reflect installation changes, design modifications, progress, and as-built conditions.
Maintain drawing version control and revision history.
Material Specification & Ordering
Create technical submittals for electrical items with input from the client and consultant specification.
Derive material lists from drawings and specifications (cables, conduit, terminations, components, ELV devices).
Prepare purchase requisitions and BOMs, monitor delivery timelines, coordinate with procurement to avoid delays.
Issuance of EICA (Electrical / Instrumentation / Control / Automation) Documents
Generate and distribute electrical design documentation (schematics, layouts, interconnections) to the installation teams and manufacturing workshops.
Ensure all necessary documentation is printed, complete, and correctly referenced.
Technical Liaison with Production & Site Teams
Act as the design liaison to site engineers and installers; resolve queries, clarify intent, recommend modifications while maintaining compliance.
Support site installation with clarifications, deviations, or design changes.
Punch Lists & Quality Close-out
Generate engineering punch lists during installation, track and ensure completion.
Work with QA / site to inspect, document, and sign off on closing items.
Planning / Progress Updates
Attend daily or weekly planning / coordination meetings; report on status of electrical tasks.
Maintain and update the EICA / project planner (task list, milestones, dependencies) with real-time progress.
ELV Cable Pull Lists & Support
Assist with creation and verification of Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) cable pull lists (quantity, routing, lengths).
Cross-check against design drawings and site condition.
Panel Witness Testing / Commissioning Support
Attend factory acceptance tests (FAT) or panel witness tests, ensuring panels meet design specifications.
Support site connectivity, testing, and verification activities during commissioning.
Documentation & Compliance
Ensure all electrical documentation meets internal / external QA standards, safety / regulatory requirements.
Archive as-built drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules into project records.
Designing of Electrical Systems
Undertake electrical designs in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP EBD-PP-001).
Carry out preliminary assessments, including analysis of supply characteristics, earthing arrangements, and cable requirements.
Review project P&IDs, mechanical submittals, and motor data sheets to inform design.
Perform load calculations and prepare accurate load schedules with diversity factors applied.
Produce detailed Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), earthing and bonding diagrams, and cable schedules.
Use Trimble ProDesign or equivalent software to generate electrical schematics, switchboard and distribution board layouts/schedules, protective device settings, fault current, disconnection time, and discrimination studies.
