Key Relationships
The Maintenance Technician interfaces with all levels of the Sycamore Plant and works closely with the production teams.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in our blending/packaging operations in Sycamore, IL. The Maintenance Technician is required to maintain and repair a variety of production and plant facility equipment and assist the manager with ordering parts, standardizing components, and maintaining repair parts inventory
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Maintenance Technician must be able to work from daily job assignments, prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, machine manuals, sketches, preventive maintenance, work orders, and instructions to perform the following tasks:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
- Disassemble equipment, rebuild, and replace defective parts and components such as motors, gear boxes, bearings, and electrical components.
- Reassemble equipment and make final adjustments as needed.
- Perform repairs on blenders, fillers, conveyors, and other production equipment.
- Perform regular checks on building equipment such as pumps, valves, chillers, compressors, and power systems as required.
- Work closely with production personnel on equipment repairs.
- Set short term priorities in responding to plant breakdowns and emergency situations and work on off shifts as directed.
- Perform repairs and calibrate electronic instruments such as sensors, controls, scales, metal detectors.
- Assist outside contractors on on-site projects.
- Keep work area in a clean and orderly condition

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; work from heights, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to see color and adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is potentially exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on site. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. In addition, this job also operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

All employees are responsible for:
- Compliance with procedures that implement the requirements of the EHSQ policies and procedures.

- Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHSQ support activities and services are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and cost-effective manner.
Maintenance Technicians additional EHSQ authority index responsibilities include:
- Supporting T&L’s environmental, health, safety, and quality policy in the execution of their job responsibilities in routine, non-routine and emergency conditions.
- Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any spills, equipment malfunctions, environmental conditions, or management practice that could represent an existing or potential safety hazard, food safety concern or significant environmental impact.
- Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any conditions or practices that could represent nonconformance with the requirements of the EHSQMS or its supporting plans and procedures.
- Performance of the environmental, health and safety monitoring and inspections according to their job responsibilities and submittal of required records.
- Support lock tag try, confined space, hot work and work permits.
- Understand the LSPs and PPPs and how they apply to T&L’s work environment.

COMPETENCIES
- Possessing of a strong, positive safety mindset while performing all functions/activities and must be confident enough to challenge others who might be performing in an unsafe way
- Committed to our customers through ensuring compliance with all applicable GMP and food safety policies and procedures
- Able to communicate openly, honestly, and directly in a non-aggressive fashion with all members of the plant team
- Self-starting, self-managing, and have the ability to work with limited direction.
- Goal-oriented and focused on continuous improvement of themselves as individuals and the operation of the plant
- Dependable and punctual in meeting expectations for attendance and performance
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance or proven proficiency in an industrial maintenance program
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
- Blueprint reading skills
- Computer skills
- Forklift operating skills and must complete on-site training and skills testing.
- Good understanding of proper use of tools and equipment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
