the posting
We are looking for an exceptional researcher, strategist and AI-enabled problem solver to join the Thoughtworks' Market & Client Intelligence team. This team helps Thoughtworks understand what is changing in markets, industries, client priorities and the competitive landscape - and, more importantly, what those changes mean for our business, our clients and our go-to-market strategy. The next evolution of the function is to make this intelligence increasingly AI-enabled, scalable and accessible across the organisation. We are therefore looking for someone who can operate comfortably across two worlds:
Deep research and judgment - understanding markets, clients, competitors and technology; identifying patterns; developing sharp insights; and translating intelligence into meaningful business implications.
AI-enabled problem solving - understanding how AI can change the way intelligence is created and consumed; translating business problems into AI-enabled solutions; designing AI workflows and agents; and taking ideas from concept through to working solutions.
This is not a conventional research role with some AI exposure, nor an AI engineering role with some research responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who understands the intelligence problem deeply enough to identify where AI can genuinely make it better.
Job responsibilities
Help shape the future of AI-enabled intelligence:
Work closely with the Head of Market & Client Intelligence to explore and develop how AI can transform the way Thoughtworks creates, curates, distributes and uses intelligence
You will help translate these ideas into practical initiatives and work with the Head of MCI to move them from concept to execution
Build AI-enabled intelligence solutions:
Take ownership of designing and developing AI-enabled solutions, workflows and prototypes within Market & Client Intelligence
You will work independently on the majority of the journey, while bringing in specialist engineering or technology support where appropriate
Translate business problems into AI-enabled solutions:
Work with stakeholders across Marketing, Sales, Strategy, Industry, Technology and other functions to understand their information and decision-making needs.
Identify where intelligence can create differentiated value
Translate stakeholder needs into AI-enabled solutions
Determine where human judgment should remain in the loop
Design appropriate AI workflows, agents and skills
Write clear AI/product engineering briefs that can be understood and executed by technical teams
Prototype and iterate rapidly with users
Bring strong research and intelligence judgment and own projects end-to-end
Alongside the technology work, you will remain a highly skilled market intelligence professional:
You will independently conduct and lead research across a diverse range of topics and stakeholders, synthesize information from multiple sources and turn it into sharp, differentiated and decision-useful insight.
Independently lead intelligence and AI-enabled initiatives from inception to delivery.
Job qualifications
Research & strategic intelligence
8–11 years of experience in market intelligence, competitive intelligence, strategic research, technology research, or a closely related field
Demonstrated ability to conduct sophisticated research independently across multiple information sources
Strong understanding of how businesses, markets, industries and competitors operate
Ability to connect disparate pieces of information and identify patterns that are not immediately obvious
Excellent analytical and synthesis skills
Strong commercial orientation and ability to connect research to business priorities
Ability to turn complex information into clear, concise and compelling insights
AI & technology
This is an important part of the role.
We are looking for someone who has hands-on experience using AI to build useful solutions, products, workflows or systems, ideally in a research, intelligence, knowledge, decision-support or business context.
You should have experience with several of the following: Generative AI and LLM applications, AI agents and agentic workflows, Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), Prompt and context engineering, Structured outputs and evaluation, AI-powered research and synthesis, API-based AI applications etc.
Technical ecosystem: Hands-on familiarity with AI development and prototyping environments is strongly preferred, including tools such as: Google Cloud / BigQuery, Vertex AI, Claude / Anthropic ecosystem, Claude Code, Replit, Claude Design, Gemini and/or other leading foundation models, APIs, JSON and basic application architecture etc.
You do not need to be a specialist software engineer. However, you should be technically comfortable enough to: Understand how an AI solution should be structured; Break a business problem into technical components.; Understand data flows, retrieval, context and orchestration; Design AI-enabled workflows and agentic solutions; Write a good AI engineering/product brief; Prototype solutions yourself; Read and work with code where necessary; Work effectively with engineers and technical teams. We are particularly interested in candidates who have moved beyond casual experimentation with AI and have actually built useful solutions that people use.
Candidates should ideally be able to demonstrate at least one substantial AI-enabled product, system or workflow that they personally helped design and build, rather than simply having used AI tools in their day-to-day work.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate complex ideas simply and compellingly
Comfortable interacting with senior stakeholders
Ability to tell a clear story from complex research
Strong presentation and storytelling skills
Project & stakeholder leadership
Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects end-to-end
Able to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of outcomes
Comfortable working with ambiguity and working in a fast-changing environment where priorities evolve quickly
