the posting
As a MLRO , your main goal is to safeguard the company’s Swedish EMI & PI licenses by ensuring total regulatory compliance with the Swedish Anti-Money Laundering Act. This role bridges essential local regulatory accountability with operational excellence, protecting the Company from financial crime while ensuring that team workflows, backlogs, and timelines are flawlessly managed.
As the MLRO, you will oversee and execute the daily anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) compliance frameworks. The ongoing, day-to-day tasks include, but are not limited to:
● Execute second-line reviews, EDD validation, and final approvals for all medium-to-high risk accounts, as well as approving the take-on and maintenance of customers with High-Risk Country exposure.
● Monitor transaction queues, screening systems, and PEP alerts daily to maintain zero backlog and ensure operational efficiency.
● Oversee the execution and maintenance of independent investigations into internal suspicious activity escalations.
● Review and file timely Suspicious Activity / Transaction Reports (SAR/Ts) directly to the Swedish Financial Intelligence Unit (Finanspolisen).
● Ensure all local law enforcement requests, court orders, and asset-freezing demands are handled in a timely and accurate manner.
● Maintain the Company’s annual Business Risk Assessment, ensuring it strictly aligns with evolving Swedish laws and neo-banking risks.
● Develop risk assessment methodologies, set policy, and establish associated standards, while enforcing adherence across the company.
● Provide independent and effective monitoring and oversight of controls implemented across the company.
● Provide oversight of relevant third-party service providers to ensure control standards are maintained.
● Create and provide appropriate compliance training across all relevant company departments.
● Act as the local point of contact for regulatory entity communications, ensuring official notices, legal correspondence, and statutory requests from Swedish authorities are received, logged, and immediately escalated to the Executive Committee.
● Supervise daily workloads, direct workflows, shift schedules and short-term task priorities, allocating alerts fairly and managing team capacity proactively to handle volume spikes, ensuring all tasks, regulatory filings, and internal deadlines are executed on time.
● Coach, mentor, and guide the team daily, providing active, constructive feedback on investigation quality, overseeing closed alerts on a weekly basis to document errors, and actively supporting team members in their professional growth.
● Maintain and analyze team records, case closure data logs, and project documentation to identify process gaps and offer operational solutions for improvement.
● Oversee, facilitate, and supervise new hires’ training on systems, workflows, and tool configurations.
● Provide advice and support to internal stakeholders, seeking advice where appropriate.
● Attend local board meetings to present AML/CTF performance metrics, risk exposures, and proposed control improvements, fulfilling local entity directorship governance while ensuring the Board remains fully informed of the firm's compliance posture in full alignment with Executive Committee oversight.
● Stay updated on financial markets, digital banking trends, neo-bank fraud methodologies, and regulatory developments to maintain a highly sophisticated compliance defense.
