Summary

This position is in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The primary purpose of this position is transporting Veterans, visitors, staff and supplies and equipment from the main warehouse to various locations at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility and any additional location, i.e., Outpatient Clinic (s), National Cemetery, and VA Regional office, as needed.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Receive work assignment and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager. Arrive at and depart from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times. Reading installation maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Enforce passenger safety and seatbelt use. Using multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily. Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies. Perform operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Maintain records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Use a two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communicate with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations. Possess a Class C drivers license. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/09/2026. The Motor Vehicle Operator must possess a valid Class C drivers license. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Your background must demonstrate experience in the safe transportation of eligible passengers and cargo; operate and provide preventive maintenance for patient transport vehicles; operate multi-passenger, wheelchair equipped vans; how to manipulate the controls for starting-stopping, backing and driving the vehicle i all types of traffic and road conditions; familiarity with National Department of Transportation and interstate policies governing motor vehicle operations and be well versed in every aspect of patient safety during transport and must be able to recognize hazardous conditions and change routes to avoid them. Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects more than 50 pounds. The MVO shall wear appropriate safety apparel, utilize proper loading of equipment, and employ recommended lifting techniques to prevent injury and/or damage to property. The MVO is exposed to extended periods of bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and walking during pick-up and delivery phases of job completion. The MVO must be in good physical condition when performing driving and related services, particularly when driving for extended periods of time and distances. The MVO must be vigilant and alert to cope with adverse traffic and weather conditions.
