Company Description
Zayo provides mission-critical bandwidth to the world’s most impactful companies, fueling the innovations that are transforming our society. Zayo’s 141,000-mile network in North America and Europe includes extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. Zayo’s communications infrastructure solutions include dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access. Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.
We are seeking our next Network Architect to join our team! Our ideal candidate is a subject matter expert for multiple technologies relevant to the Zayo Enterprise Networks, which is an MPLS based multi-service backbone supporting layer 2 and layer 3 products and services. You will have experience designing, implementing, and documenting new technologies, as well as providing a top tier of troubleshooting and support for customers.
This is a hands-on position. You will build a network, not white papers. You will know when to apply cheap and cheerful versus large-scale, heavy-duty solutions. In your previous role, you will have been responsible for providing guidance with network architecture, Ethernet and IP product design standards and enhancements, production network issues and escalations, and to engage in vendor relationships. You will face both scaling the network and providing additional features necessary for the Zayo Ethernet & IP services that our customers demand. You will be at a vendor level engineering knowledge. You will have and be expected to invent novel and original solutions to difficult problems.
Responsibilities:
Take responsibility for the analysis, definition, and continued development of the end-to-end Layer 2 & Layer 3 Architecture for Zayo
Work with other team members and groups to develop scalable network designs, solutions and policy recommendations
Analyze and drive key platform decisions and directions, provide guidance to network planning and operations groups
Support Zayo's internal product groups by identifying and presenting their network-impacting requirements to the service activations and the network operations teams
Support and lead development of Zayo's growing network infrastructure through published Architecture design documents
Provide technical guidance for the NCC support teams
Conduct extensive lab testing of new architectures, platforms, inter-networking software
Promote Zayo’s Enterprise Networks product development
Participate in discussions at various Standard Development Organizations such as NANOG, MEF, IETF and other conferences
Qualifications:
Deep and substantial operational knowledge and experience with carrier-class routers, switches, and packet-optical platforms, such as Juniper, Cisco, Nokia-ALU, Infinera, and Ciena/Cyan
Ability in representing Zayo at the Standards Development Organizations such as MEF, IEEE, ITU, IETF, ISO, etc.
Excellent knowledge of the Ethernet, QOS, MPLS/RSVP-TE, L2Circuit/VLL, VPLS-BGP/LDP, L3VPN, G.8032v2, E-OAM, Y.1731, IS-IS, OSPF, MP-BGP, and SNMP protocols
Skills in building Layer 2 & Layer 3 networks in both metro and long-haul applications. Experience modeling financial impacts of decisions
Strong vendor negotiation skills
Skills in Perl/Python scripting, automation, NETCONF/YANG, and EMS/NMS
Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to influence others with your engineering solutions
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience
Minimum of six (6) years of experience in engineering, architecture, or design of an ISP network
Preferred Certification – JNCIE, CCIE, or MEF-CECP
Other network related certifications a plus
Must have worked in “zero downtime” environments previously
Estimated base salary range: $70,000 - $100,000 CAD/annually.
