Goldsboro Builders Supply is seeking a talented and motivated Operations Manager to lead our yard, warehouse, logistics, dispatch, and delivery operations at our Goldsboro Branch location. This role is responsible for ensuring materials move efficiently from receipt to customer delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety, customer service, inventory accuracy, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a proven leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys developing teams, and has a strong understanding of logistics, transportation, inventory management, and building materials operations.
What You'll Do
As Operations Manager, you will oversee the daily flow of materials and deliveries while leading a team responsible for receiving, inventory management, order fulfillment, dispatch, and transportation. This position reports to the Branch General Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead all yard, warehouse, receiving, dispatch, and delivery operations.
- Ensure customer orders are picked accurately, staged efficiently, loaded safely, and delivered on time.
- Develop and optimize delivery schedules and routing to maximize efficiency and control costs.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and oversee the storage and handling of lumber and building materials.
- Supervise, coach, and develop employees across receiving, picking, dispatch, and transportation functions.
- Establish accountability while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture focused on safety and service.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, CDL, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct safety training, inspections, and performance reviews.
- Manage fleet operations, including preventative maintenance scheduling and equipment readiness.
- Monitor and improve key performance indicators related to productivity, delivery performance, inventory accuracy, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Prepare operational reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Manage operational expenses and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in operations, logistics, transportation, warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or building materials environments.
- Experience supervising multiple employees and holding teams accountable for results.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control, fleet operations, and logistics management.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, inventory software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and build strong relationships with customers and coworkers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional education, technical training, or college coursework.
- Experience in lumber, building materials, construction supply, or related industries.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA compliance, fleet management, and CDL regulations.
- Lean, continuous improvement, or operational excellence experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, push, pull, and work in both office and outdoor yard environments.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around moving equipment.
Leadership Responsibility
Direct supervision of approximately 8 - 15 employees, including:
- Receiving Personnel
- Order Pullers/Pickers
- Dispatch Personnel
- CDL Drivers
