Part-time Special Education Paraprofessional

The Special Education Paraprofessional is a part-time instructional support specialist, working under the direction of Licensed Teacher(s) in a Catholic, K-8 school setting. The SPED Paraprofessional delivers, in the least restrictive learning environment (general education classroom), support to students with significant needs in the areas of reading, language arts, mathematics, or other authorized instructional areas. This role is designed to facilitate access to students with significant disabilities, working 1:1 with these students to meet the goals of their Individualized Catholic Learning Plan (ICLP). In addition to delivering services, the SEP carefully documents and communicates relevant information about the student, the services delivered, and data collected.

The SPED Paraprofessional is a qualified professional who meets the requirements to work in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Denver. He/she is hired by and directly accountable to all assigned managers and the administration. Daily tasks are communicated by Licensed Teacher(s), and/or administrator(s). The SEP is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. He/she cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

Job Duties and Expectations

• •Supports access to general education for student(s) with moderate to severe disabilities, providing 1:1 services in the least restrictive environment
• •Uses multisensory approaches to keep students on task, motivated, and included in a general education setting
• •May assist with physical care and needs of students
• •Work collaboratively with classroom teacher and Special Education teacher to design and/or implement supports, interventions, and modified educational activities to meet student ICLP goals
• •Support behavioral needs of student
• •Build and foster strong relationships and rapport with staff, students, families, and external therapists
• •Perform clerical duties; use and monitor different technologies and educational platforms
• •Maintain confidentiality and privacy of student
• •Complete required trainings or credentialing as necessary
• •May provide coverage for other school-wide needs
• •Work in the building full-time, M-F; maintain a regular schedule
• •Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and work environment
• •Obtain and/or renew all necessary credentialing to perform job duties
• •Participate in all Archdiocese of Denver and school-level professional development, in-service trainings, and initiatives, unless exempted or excused by administrator
• •Other job duties as assigned

Competencies, Qualifications, Education and Experience

• •Refrain from promotion or approval of, or living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect, discredit, or disgrace, or cause scandal in relationship to the Archdiocese of Denver or to be considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine of morals.
• •Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
• •Requires a minimum of a high school diploma; some college or Bachelor's degree preferred
• •Experience in classroom setting or comparable support role preferred
• •Technologically adept with experience in using digital tools for instructional purposes
• •Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks and workload with desired outcomes
• •Complete required training, certification, and/or credentialing as necessitated by Archdiocese of Denver, school, and/or student need
• •Compliance with Safe Environment requirements
