the posting
- Want to own payroll end to end for a whole country, and shape how it is done rather than just keep it running? This is your chance to lead payroll for Amazon employees in Czech Republic and make a real difference to their experience.
- You lead a payroll team and are the single point of contact for your scope. Working to a defined strategy, you set team structure and priorities, improve how the work is done, and own compliance and controllership readiness. You will innovate — moving away from manual, traditional ways of working — handle Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), country expansions and mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and build an environment where people develop and do their best work. This role is part of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Payroll Management Team.
- A typical week: you set priorities and team structure, review service levels and quality, make operational decisions using data, anticipate what employees need from payroll, negotiate priorities with partner teams and payroll vendors, and develop your team.
- Key job responsibilities
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Own the end-to-end payroll cycle for Czech Republic and act as the single point of contact for your scope
- Lead and develop your payroll team, setting team structure and priorities
- Improve payroll processes and the employee payroll experience, reducing the effort for employees to access payroll services
- Own compliance and controllership readiness, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls; run Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs)
- Lead country expansions and mergers and acquisitions (M&A); manage payroll vendors and works councils where applicable
- A day in the life
- You start your morning reviewing key financial metrics and preparing for a working session with your team on an upcoming business review. After coaching a team member through a complex variance analysis, you join a cross-functional meeting to align on resource priorities for the quarter. In the afternoon, you review a financial package your team prepared, provide detailed feedback, and wrap up by discussing career development goals during a one-on-one with a direct report.
Basic qualifications
- - • Experience managing a payroll team
- - • Experience operating to a defined strategy and improving payroll processes
- - • Experience applying SOX controls and controllership readiness
- - • Experience running payroll independently and resolving difficult operational problems
- - • English
Preferred qualifications
- - • Experience managing or coaching other payroll managers
- - • Experience managing international payroll across multiple countries
- - • Experience supporting collective bargaining agreements and working with works councils
- - • Experience with payroll and HR systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Workday or ADP
- - • Finance background within a large organisation
- - • Kaizen or Green Belt certification
