Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in the USDB Sub Facilities Engineer Branch and requires frequent, direct contact with inmates.This position has been designated as primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage.The maximum entry age for this position is 37 years old.
Duties
- As a Plumber, you will perform the following duties which is not all inclusive list:
- Independently install, modify, repair and maintain a variety of new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment.
- Plan work based on oral instructions, preventive maintenance programs, work orders, emergency calls, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and layout sketches.
- Plan the sequence of work and determines the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned projects.
- Use sound judgment to identify and resolve routine issues and refers unusual or difficult problems to the supervisor.
- Install valves and traps as needed for proper operation of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment.
- Use shop mathematics to layout angles, arcs, circles and in planning the layout of plumbing or piping systems.
- Ensure completed work complies with instructions, applicable standards, and acceptable workmanship requirements.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber without more than normal supervision. Tasks including making repairs and/or installation of plumbing fixtures, disposal systems and equipment. Install and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, fittings, valves, drains, water heaters, pumps, hot water systems, and related equipment. Work from verbal instructions only. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead. The employee's reporting place of duty is in the Military Corrections Complex but outside of thefacility walls. Employee spends 70% of their workday within the United States Disciplinary Barracks,Joint Regional Confinement Facility and the Trustee Unit performing the duties above. Inmate contactexposes the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such asphysical attack or riots by the inmate population. This position has been designated as a primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage under the provisions of title 5 USC 8336(c) and 8412(d) by DoD memorandum dated January 18, 2022. The maximum entry age for positions covered under this retirement is 37 years old. Retirement from this position is mandatory at age 57 with 20 years of LEO service. The maximum entry age may be waived under certain circumstances. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, MAY be reinstated.
