About This Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Officer to contribute to innovative research in microfluidics. Working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment, you will design and fabricate microfluidic devices and apply expertise in polymer chemistry, hydrogels and surface immobilisation chemistry to advance the team’s research program in peptide and protein drug discovery.
The position will also collaborate with researchers working across complementary areas such as protein biochemistry, molecular biology and computational biology. This provides an opportunity to connect microfluidic technologies with broader biological research applications while developing your research expertise and emerging profile.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Research: Develop a coherent research program in microfluidics and drug discovery, produce quality research outputs, draw upon best-practice methodologies, and contribute to joint projects and competitive funding applications.
- Research translation: Progress the transfer of knowledge, technology and research practices to end users, including opportunities to contribute to the commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the effective supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, as appropriate, through constructive feedback, coaching and responsible research practice.
- Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate UQ values through collaboration, active participation in priority activities, support for colleagues, internal service and the development of relationships with industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community.
This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance .
About You
You will possess:
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in bioengineering or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in microfluidic device design and fabrication.
- Demonstrated experience in polymer chemistry, hydrogels or surface immobilisation chemistry.
- Additional expertise in 1) cell and animal biology, 2) computational biology, or 3) molecular biology and protein expression would be highly regarded.
- Experience applying microfluidic technologies to biological systems, biomolecular analysis, protein engineering or related applications would be advantageous.
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- An emerging research profile, including evidence of quality research outputs in relevant refereed journals or conferences.
- The ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries and contribute to joint research projects.
