A Day in the Life

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for the Released Product Engineering group, you will be part of the Advanced Energy engineering team. You will focus on driving design integrity across multiple Vessel Sealing and Dissection product lines to attain business goals consistent with cost, high quality, reliability and delivery requirements. Interacts with other functions within Supply Chain, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Regulatory across the organization to support change management, drive quality, and improve existing processes for new and mature products.

You will join a team of engineers, responsible for driving design ownership and integrity for our LigaSure™ and Sonicision™ product lines under the Core Surgical Innovations umbrella within Medtronic. This role will work cross-functionally and communicate with others for feedback and decision making to ensure safety and efficiency across our programs.

A Day in the Life

You will join a team of engineers, responsible for driving design ownership and integrity for our LigaSure™ and Sonicision™ product lines under the Core Surgical Innovations umbrella within Medtronic. This role will work cross-functionally and communicate with others for feedback and decision making to ensure safety and efficiency across our programs.

Location: Lafayette, CO

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Qualification of new molds for plastic injection molded parts and new suppliers or processes for machined components, including part and assembly design.
  • Manufacturing and supplier quality support for automated test and assembly processes
  • Finished device test method development and fixture design for electromechanical systems.

Previous experience in the following technical areas preferred.

  • Extensive plastic injection molding part design and qualification experience
  • 5+ years in CAD (Creo preferred) part modeling and design experience and surface modeling a plus
  • 5+ years GD&T experience with ability to communicate to suppliers on metrology, fixturing, and control plans
  • Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or similar experience
  • Experience as a mechanical design engineer in the medical device industry

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

  • Typically manages major / moderately complex projects, involving delegation of work and review of work products, at times acting as a team leader.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
