Principal Security Engineer

POSITION LOCATION

This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond, Virginia in-office applicants.

*A Hybrid schedule of both Remote and In-Office days is required. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.

YOUR ROLE

The Principal Security Engineer is a senior technical leader within Genworth's Cybersecurity organization, responsible for leading complex security engineering initiatives and advancing the company's security operations capabilities. This role provides deep technical expertise, drives execution of high-priority and high-complexity initiatives, and develops scalable solutions that reduce risk and strengthen Genworth's overall security posture. Principal Security Engineer serves as a trusted technical advisor who transforms emerging challenges into practical outcomes, improves cyber resilience, enhances detection and response capabilities, and enables secure adoption of modern technologies across the enterprise.

What You Will Be Doing

• •Influence complex, high-impact cybersecurity engineering initiatives across application security, infrastructure and cloud security, vulnerability and exposure management, security services, privileged access, automation, and related domains through technical expertise, collaboration, and trusted advisory capabilities.
• •Troubleshoot and help resolve escalated technical issues by conducting root-cause analysis, advising on remediation approaches, and promoting sustainable solutions.
• •Influence the design, integration, and enhancement of security capabilities and controls across enterprise applications, infrastructure, cloud environments, and technology delivery processes.
• •Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance to address emerging technical and execution challenges, helping teams navigate ambiguity and progress solutions from concept through implementation.
• •Partner with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, operations, application, risk, and business teams to align priorities, build consensus, and drive successful security outcomes.
• •Champion improvements in security processes, tooling, automation, and orchestration to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and strengthen prevention, detection, and response capabilities.
• •Assess complex technical options and influence decision-making by recommending approaches that balance security risk, business objectives, regulatory expectations, operational impact, and long-term sustainability.
• •Serve as a trusted technical advisor by providing guidance, mentoring, peer reviews, and thought leadership to security and technology professionals without direct management responsibility.

What you bring

• •Significant progressive experience in cybersecurity or security engineering, typically 12+ years, with recognized expertise in solving complex enterprise security challenges.
• •Broad technical knowledge across multiple cybersecurity domains, such as application and software security, infrastructure and cloud security, vulnerability and exposure management, security tooling and services, identity or privileged access, detection and response, and security automation.
• •Demonstrated success designing and implementing enterprise security solutions, not solely advising, governing, or coordinating the work of others.
• •Ability to independently solve ambiguous, high-impact problems requiring innovative thinking, sound judgment, and consideration of enterprise-wide implications.
• •Strong ability to influence technical decisions, align cross-functional teams, and communicate complex security concepts to technical and business stakeholders.
• •Experience guiding and developing other technical professionals through expertise, mentoring, design review, and hands-on partnerships.
• •Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, information technology, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• •Relevant advanced security certification, such as CISSP, GIAC, CCSP, or equivalent, preferred.

COMPENSATION

National Range: $144,800-$224,000

Disclaimer: This role is aligned to a national market-based pay range. Actual compensation will vary based on geographic location, experience, skills, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus incentive plan. Incentive compensation is based on individual and company performance and is not guaranteed.
