About the Company
Our client is a leading manufacturer of storage, protection, and organizational products for trading cards, comics, gaming, sports memorabilia, records, and collectibles. Our products are trusted by collectors, retailers, distributors, and hobby enthusiasts around the world.
We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer who can help modernize our existing product lines and develop innovative new products from concept through manufacturing. This role combines industrial design, CAD modeling, mechanical product design, and manufacturing collaboration.
About the Role
Our client is looking for a detail-oriented Product Designer who can help modernize their existing product lines and develop innovative new products from concept through manufacturing. This role combines industrial design, CAD modeling, mechanical product design, and manufacturing collaboration.
This role will be responsible for developing functional consumer products from initial concept through production. You will create detailed CAD models, engineering documentation, mechanical features, and visual product simulations while ensuring that each design is practical, manufacturable, and ready for commercial production.
You will report directly to the hiring manager, who will facilitate communication and collaboration with Product Management, Procurement, Quality, Packaging, and international manufacturing partners.
This is a 100% remote position.
Responsibilities
Product Design: Develop functional consumer products from initial concept through prototyping and production.
3D CAD Modeling: Create accurate, production-ready 3D CAD models based on product requirements, sketches, and design concepts.
Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications, design schematics, and revision files.
Mechanical Features: Design functional components such as hinges, latches, snap fits, locks, sliding mechanisms, stackable features, and modular assemblies.
Design for Manufacturing: Apply DFM principles for injection-molded plastic products, including draft angles, wall thicknesses, ribs, bosses, tolerances, and tooling considerations.
Material Selection: Recommend suitable materials based on function, durability, manufacturing requirements, and cost.
Product Visualization: Create visual simulations and realistic renderings that demonstrate the product’s appearance and functionality.
Prototype Evaluation: Review prototypes and refine designs to improve usability, durability, structural integrity, and manufacturability.
Product Improvement: Redesign existing products to enhance functionality, quality, customer experience, and production efficiency.
Manufacturing Readiness: Identify potential design, tooling, or production concerns and escalate them to the hiring manager. Implement approved revisions based on feedback from relevant stakeholders and manufacturing partners.
Project Management: Manage multiple concurrent product development projects based on priorities set with the hiring manager.
Progress Updates: Provide regular project updates and participate in weekly one-on-one meetings and design reviews.

Advanced proficiency in Autodesk, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software.
Experience designing injection-molded plastic products and functional mechanical assemblies.
Strong experience creating engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications, and production-ready CAD files.
Solid understanding of tolerances, materials, tooling, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacturing principles.
Experience evaluating prototypes and refining designs through multiple iterations.
A portfolio showing commercially produced consumer products, CAD models, technical drawings, and mechanical features.
Strong mechanical problem-solving, attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Nice-to-Have
Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience designing storage systems, organizers, protective cases, hobby products, or similar consumer goods.
Knowledge of injection mold tooling and overseas manufacturing.
Experience with rapid prototyping, design validation, and 3D printing.
Experience creating photorealistic product renderings or visual simulations.
Familiarity with mold flow, structural, or mechanical simulation tools.
Ability to manage multiple product design projects and incorporate technical feedback from different stakeholders
Who You Are
Detail-oriented: Produces accurate, well-documented designs and carefully considers dimensions, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing requirements.
Action-oriented: Takes ownership of projects, moves designs forward, and proactively resolves technical and production challenges.
Analytical: Evaluates product functionality, mechanical constraints, manufacturing feasibility, and design trade-offs before recommending solutions.
