The Regulatory Compliance Specialist supports Printpack's commitment to product safety and customer confidence by managing regulatory compliance activities related to food, pet, consumer goods, and medical packaging. This role serves as a key resource for researching, analyzing, and certifying customer and consumer-driven regulatory compliance inquiries related to product contact.

Our Regulatory Compliance Specialist will build and expand their expertise in food contact regulations, packaging technologies (food or medical), and compliance certification processes while providing internal support to cross-functional partners. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist operates with increasing self-direction within established frameworks, developing technical proficiency and customer relationship skills while contributing to the efficiency and accuracy of Printpack's regulatory compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Inquiry Research & Certification – Research, review, and certify customer and consumer-driven inquiries related to product contact acceptability and restricted substance compliance. Generate and sign letters of certification that accurately reflect applicable regulatory requirements and compliance status.
  • Regulatory Knowledge Development – Build and maintain foundational knowledge of U.S. and select global regulatory compliance requirements applicable to end consumer safety. Develop working familiarity with compliance disciplines including food contact regulations (U.S. FDA, select international frameworks), state packaging regulations (PFAS, metals, BPA, TPCH), Good Manufacturing Practices frameworks, and customer-specific requirements. Apply this knowledge to evaluate customer and consumer inquiries and support regulatory compliance and risk management decisions.
  • Regulatory Trend Monitoring & Analysis – Monitor food and packaging regulatory trends across domestic jurisdictions using established sources and tracking tools. Research and summarize regulatory changes as they are published, flagging potential impacts to the compliance team. Assist in maintaining internal compliance tracking logs and communicate routine findings to the Quality and Compliance Manager or compliance team through standard reporting channels.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Consultation – Serve as a primary compliance resource for selecting customers, suppliers, and internal partners — including sales and product development — on packaging compliance matters. Manage and prioritize customer regulatory compliance requests with a strong focus on responsiveness, accuracy, and customer experience.
  • Industry Engagement and Learning Agility – Attend industry conferences, trade association events, and educational forums related to food and medical packaging
  • Process Improvement – Support process improvement initiatives within Printpack's regulatory compliance and safety risk management workflows by gathering data, documenting current processes, and identifying inefficiencies or gaps. Assist in implementing changes as directed by senior team members and track progress against defined milestones to help enhance efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness across the regulatory compliance function.
  • Regulatory Compliance Risk Management – Analyze regulations, test data, product formulations, and food properties to support compliance determinations and risk assessments. Apply sound professional judgment to evaluate complex regulatory scenarios and recommend appropriate courses of action .
  • Regulatory Systems and Workflows- Support the maintenance and day-to-day operation of regulatory workflows, databases, and electronic systems. Perform routine data entry, run standard reports, troubleshoot basic system issues, and escalate more complex problems to Manager or senior team members. Assist in documenting system processes and identifying areas where workflows may be improved.

Skills Requirements:

  • Regulatory Knowledge & Interpretation: Ability to research and learn how to interpret, U.S. and select global food packaging regulatory requirements, including FDA regulations, restricted substance frameworks, and select international food contact standards across one or more type of application, e.g.food, pet, consumer goods, and medical packaging.
  • Compliance Certification & Documentation: Ability to review and assess standard customer requirements and draft professional responses to customer inquiries.
  • Risk Assessment & Technical Analysis: Ability to analyze technical information and apply to daily work
  • Client Relationship Management: Strong interpersonal and internal client-facing skills with the ability to manage customer regulatory compliance requests, build trusted relationships, and deliver a high-quality regulatory compliance experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Consultation: Ability to work effectively with cross functional partners to resolve compliance matters.
  • Project & Priority Management: Ability to independently manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication & Persuasion: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate generation of formal certification letters
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies in processes and suggest improvements

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Packaging Science, or a related scientific or technical field preferred; OR equivalent experience.

Prior experience in regulatory compliance, or food contact materials evaluation or medical regulatory compliance preferred

Working knowledge of U.S. FDA food contact regulations and global equivalents (EU, EFSA, etc.)

Experience consulting with customers and cross-functional teams on regulatory compliance matters preferred

Familiarity with restricted substance lists, food contact acceptability frameworks, and risk assessment methodologies preferred

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulatory texts, test data, product formulations, and food properties to support compliance determinations

Self-directed and highly organized, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent customer regulatory compliance requests

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required

Experience with document management platforms and familiarity with regulatory databases and compliance management systems preferred

Work Conditions:

  • Primary work environment includes office settings with ability to work remotely
  • Standard schedule is Monday through Friday during normal business hours; occasional evenings or weekends may be required to support improvement projects, audits, or equipment activities

Occasional interaction with production equipment, industrial processes, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced regulated manufacturing environment

  • Extensive collaboration with plant management, production, quality, supply chain, and customer-facing teams to drive quality improvement and defect elimination
  • Support Corporate and local Food Safety initiatives and programs as necessary

Must be 18+ years old and pass pre-employment screening (drug test, background check)
