Are you an experienced SAGD Reservoir Engineer Specialist looking to play a key role in one of the world’s leading in situ thermal assets? As a Calgary-based Reservoir Engineer Specialist supporting our Firebag SAGD operations, you will provide reservoir management and optimization leadership to drive safe, reliable, and efficient well and pad performance. You will work closely with our Production, Operations, Geoscience, and Development teams to maximize recovery and enhance overall asset value.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 15+ years of combined experience in Reservoir and Production Engineering with a focus in thermal SAGD operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, or Mechanical)
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Expert in SAGD recovery mechanisms, thermal reservoir behaviour, conformance, steam allocation, subcool and pressure management, and mature-pad optimization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics, reservoir simulation, and use/development of digital solutions (PowerBI, Python, modelling software, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to translate reservoir analysis, simulation, and history matching into practical operating decisions and recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate reservoir, production, geoscience, surveillance, and operational data to diagnose performance issues and identify optimization opportunities
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, peer review, technical assurance, and stewardship of reservoir-management practices

Responsibilities:

  • Lead integrated reservoir surveillance and performance reviews using production, injection, pressure, temperature, geoscience, completion, and diagnostic data
  • Forecast pad production and translate reservoir insights into practical decisions on operating limits, ESP strategy, well design, interventions, and brownfield development
  • Identify and manage reservoir risks including steam breakthrough, uneven conformance, gas-handling constraints, well interactions, and containment
  • Support pad start-up, ramp-up, mature-pad optimization, and long-term depletion
  • Provide technical assurance, coaching, and mentorship while strengthening consistent reservoir-management practices
  • Ensure decisions meet regulatory requirements, internal governance, and safe operating standards

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
