Roadway Design Civil Engineering Co-Op

Gain practical experience in transportation engineering with our team as a Roadway Design Engineer Co-op. In this role, you'll work alongside early career and experienced engineers to gain an understanding of roadway design and consulting. You'll gain hands-on experience across areas that could include geometric design, safety studies or multi-modal design while developing technical skills and problem-solving abilities that will create a foundation for your career.

What You’ll Do

Under the direction of experienced technical staff, you’ll learn design and analysis skills for a variety of roadway engineering design projects for state DOTs and/or local municipalities

Projects may include preliminary roadway studies, roadway and highway geometric design, traffic or safety analysis, interchange, urban street and multi-modal design

Assist engineers with preparing studies and developing reports

Assist engineers with project scoping and final design, such as developing construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications using design tools such as MicroStation and AutoCAD

Skills & Qualifications

Current undergraduate student in good academic standing pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program and completion of one year coursework required

A strong interest in transportation engineering; previous co-ops are a plus

Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word

Ability to learn PDF markup/review tools, such as BlueBeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat

Ability to learn MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD/Civil3D drawing software packages, direct experience is a plus

Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate, learn, and grow

Availability to work full-time Spring Semester

Typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 30 – 40 hours per week. Housing and transportation to/from work is the responsibility of the co-op, parking is provided.
