Position Overview
Senior Manager, Civic Engagement is responsible for leading a team of Senior AmeriCorps Members through an 11-month physical service based program. The manager also supports the implementation of several opportunities within the Site's Impact program.
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Events and Development Operations and part of a team responsible for securing approximately $4M+ of private revenue annually, the Senior Manager of Events and Civic Engagement will work closely with the entire City Year New York (CYNY) development and communications team, staff, and corps (AmeriCorps members) to plan and execute service events with our corporate partners. This role directly manages, coaches and supports the New York Civic Engagement (NYCE) team – a small team of 3-4 AmeriCorps members who are between the ages of 18-25 and are responsible for supporting the planning and execution of service days and events.
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience in managing multiple events, balancing short-term execution needs with longer-term planning
Experience interacting with corporate partners and other donors
Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America
Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children
Responsibilities
The Senior Manager, Events and Civic Engagement will perform the following roles and responsibilities:
Corporate Engagement Event Planning and Executio n
Manage the Civic Engagement (CE) program, owning budget management, resource allocation, and execution.
Evaluate and propose new opportunities for CE events that can be sold to corporate partners, including ways to support our schools on-site and from offices.
Manage the CE event calendar to ensure that all events are properly scheduled and inform development team of openings/availability/changes.
Plan and execute an average of 4 corporate CE service events per month for new and existing corporate partners. These will be a mix of school-based and office-based events that vary in complexity.
Develop and lead the New York Civic Engagement (NYCE) team—currently a group of three second-year AmeriCorps members—to execute a comprehensive workplan that clearly identifies each party’s roles and responsibilities and ensures a positive experience for each of our corporate partners.
Own all aspects of planning a strong event program for each event including acquiring speakers from CYNY, our partner schools, our AmeriCorps members, and our CE partners; ensuring that A/V and other technical support is available and functioning at each event venue; Creating a food plan for each event encompassing CYNY staff, partner school staff, and CE volunteers; oversee or facilitate ordering, delivery, set-up and clean up.
Manage the budget for each event, ensuring that spending parameters are followed, and invoices are processed in a timely manner.
Ensure timely follow-up with all partners and volunteers within 48 hours after each event.
Maintain a mailing list of CE participants in Salesforce, ensuring that new contacts are added within 48 hours of an event.
Partner with the Senior Manager of Individual Giving to identify CE attendees who constitute Individual Giving leads.
Partner with the Institutional Giving team to inform strategy for developing existing corporate sponsors.
NYCE Team Leadership and Managemen t
Oversee the annual hiring process for the New York Civic Engagement (NYCE) team of second-year AmeriCorps members.
Lead the NYCE team onboarding, summer training and ongoing professional development by building and maintaining the NYCE Team calendar and facilitating numerous training sessions.
Manage the ongoing workflow and professional development of the NYCE team to ensure strong performance, job satisfaction, and retention throughout the entire school year.
Provide 1:1 and team based coaching, support and professional development to ensure a meaningful and positive experience for the NYCE Team of AmeriCorps members.
Connect with other Civic Engagement managers across the City Year network to support training and experience of AmeriCorps members.
Work with City Year New York’s AmeriCorps Member Experience Director to ensure all compliance and AmeriCorps standards are upheld.
Additional Event and Operations Suppor t
Under the direction of a project planner/manager, provide significant hands-on planning, prep, and day-of support for other City Year events, including CYNY’s annual gala, Investment Community Board events, and other donor-focused events.
Support the Development & Communications team by collecting digital communications content at CE events, updating collateral as needed, and managing other long-range project plans on behalf of the team.
Collaboration & Learning
Build strong internal relation
ships with members of the Development & Communications, Impact, and HQ teams.
Build strong relationships with our existing corporate partners through a variety of touchpoints over the year.
Build strong relationships with external partners such as school principals and administrators.
Role models a growth mindset and commitment to City Year’s culture and values as a leader within a youth-serving organization
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year’s mission
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Interest in nonprofit fundraising
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
High EQ in order to interact with many internal and external stakeholders
Willingness and ability to occasionally work early mornings, evenings and weekends
Ability to adapt and excel in a multi skill-set, high energy, entrepreneurial, and rapidly changing environment
Passion for education and youth development

Physical requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand or walk
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, and handling office equipment
Visual acuity to read screens and printed materials
Hearing ability to participate in conversations and respond to phone calls
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Working Conditions
Hybrid in the New York City area, with 3 days per week expected in the office and additional time at schools and other sites for fundraising events.
Operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment
Requires regular local travel to donor meetings, events, and community engagements
Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 9am-5pm, with occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend commitments
Must have reliable internet access for hybrid work
