About COURIER

COURIER is the fastest growing values-driven local news network in America. Across 20 state newsrooms and a national bureau, we've earned the trust of over 10.5M subscribers and reach more than 150M Americans weekly with factual, compelling, and shareable storytelling, from viral social videos to must-read newsletters and podcasts, delivered where audiences already spend their time online.

Great journalism doesn't sell itself. This role exists because COURIER needs someone who can turn our reach, our impact, and our story into materials that actually close business with advertisers, sponsors, partners, and donors alike.

COURIER Newsroom is committed to building an inclusive workplace that values diverse perspectives and lived experiences. We strongly encourage women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ+ candidates, and those from all backgrounds to apply. As an equal opportunity employer, we strive to break down barriers and ensure every team member feels seen, heard, and supported.

The Role

We're looking for a senior marketing strategist to work directly with our revenue team on the sales collateral behind everything we bring to market, new products, brand franchises and events across both our national and local newsrooms. You'll be the person turning ideas into pitch-ready decks, one-pagers, and narratives that clients actually respond to.

You'll also work closely with our CEO on fundraising, underwriting, membership, and donor communications, spanning all of our revenue lines rather than just one. It's a client-facing and creative role, with a lot of latitude to shape how COURIER shows up to the outside world.

You'll report to the Chief Revenue Officer, working shoulder to shoulder with the CEO and CEO’s Chief of Staff on donor-facing work, and interacting regularly with revenue and editorial leaders across the COURIER network.

What you'll do

Build the sales collateral including but not limited to decks, one-pagers, proposals, brand narratives that our leadership team uses to sell new partnerships products to clients and partners across both national and local newsrooms

Get in front of clients yourself. This isn't a back-office writing role; you'll be in the room helping pitch and close

Partner directly with the revenue team on messaging across fundraising, underwriting, membership, and donor communications

Own creative strategy and RFP responses, making sure everything that goes out the door, decks, proposals are sharp, consistent, and immediately sounds like COURIER

Take a new initiative, a product, a franchise, an event, and figure out how to tell its story differently depending on who's hearing it: a client, a funder, a member, a partner

Work across our local and national newsrooms to spot moments and franchises worth building marketing and fundraising materials around

Keep an eye out for ways your work can connect to other parts of the business, and proactively pitch those ideas to the CRO

Who we're looking for

Someone with real experience in marketing strategy, sales enablement, or creative strategy, media, political, advocacy, or nonprofit backgrounds are all relevant

You've built sales or fundraising materials from scratch before, and you've seen them actually help close revenue, not just look good in a folder

A strong writer who can move between a sales deck, a donor appeal, and a brand narrative without sounding like the same person wrote all three in five minutes

Comfortable being the face of an organization in a client conversation

Self-directed individual; you're as comfortable setting the strategy as you are the one executing it

Able to work well in a remote, fast-moving, somewhat unstructured environment, and build real relationships across a decentralized team

Genuinely motivated by the idea that good marketing can help fund progressive journalism

Courier Newsroom offers the following benefits:

Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO), 11 paid holidays a year

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Full suite of health benefits

$500 home office reimbursement

401k

Flexible working arrangements
