ABOUT SITELINE

Siteline is a fast-growing Series A startup transforming how construction companies get paid, headquartered in San Francisco.

Specialty trade contractors build the infrastructure America runs on, from data centers and schools to highways and hospitals. Yet most are still managing millions of dollars in billing and payments through spreadsheets and manual processes.

We’re changing that.

WHAT PROBLEMS ARE WE SOLVING

Construction is the slowest paid industry, with contractors waiting around 96 days to get paid. For those 96 days, subcontractors are funding payroll, materials, equipment, and the cost of actually doing the work - all before seeing a single payment. It’s little wonder they describe themselves as “America’s largest bank”.

Our mission is simple: get subcontractors paid faster. And we’re damn good at it. Siteline customers average just 55 days to payment, and that number keeps falling.

We’re building in a massive, underserved market with no true direct competitor. And while AI is reshaping industries everywhere, the physical infrastructure our customers build isn’t going anywhere. Data centers, hospitals, schools, roads, and power infrastructure still have to be built -and the contractors building them need a radically better way to manage their receivables.

WHY ARE WE BUILDING THIS?

Construction software has historically been built for General Contractors. We’re building for the subcontractors actually doing the work.

These businesses are managing millions of dollars on spreadsheets, printouts, ERP reports, and a whole lot of manual work to get paid.

Every project has different billing requirements, different deadlines, and different paperwork. Miss something, and payment can get pushed out another 30 days.

Subcontractors deserve software built specifically for them. That’s why we built Siteline.

🕺 The Role

As a senior member of our small but mighty engineering team, you'll work closely with our cross-functional product team to conceptualize, implement, and ship features from start to finish, as well as own the maintenance and evolution of our backend tech stack and infrastructure. Whether iterating on core workflows, driving product initiatives, or building critical infrastructure, you'll be thinking nonstop about how to improve our customers' experience and scale the product. And, you'll be an early member of the Siteline team and lend your unique voice and perspective to the shaping of not just the product, but the company itself.

This position is based in our San Francisco office where our engineering team collaborates in-office 4 days a week. We're big believers in trust and in a healthy work/life balance: we want you to be productive and connected with the team, but we're not here to micromanage.

🎒 Responsibilities

Technical leadership: Employ software engineering best practices to ensure our codebase remains well-tested and bug-free. As an early engineer, you’ll have a prominent voice in engineering decisions and technical direction across the stack.

Infrastructure: Guide the future of our tech stack. To support greater usage and a larger customer base, our infrastructure needs to evolve, as does the way we store, query, and process data. You’ll not only be a key decision-maker, but will anticipate technical constraints and proactively find and engineer solutions.

Systems design: Independently drive decisions on software architecture, data modeling, and infrastructure that scale with our customer base and perform reliably for our users.

Product development: Work closely with the engineering and product team to plan, architect, and implement features. Your work will lean heavily toward the backend and API, but you’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers and always think holistically about the product.

Integrations: Build and maintain robust integrations with third-party platforms—some modern and well-documented, others more outdated and opaque. You’ll grow to be a leader on the team’s integrations ecosystem and an expert on our external-facing systems and solutions.

Team building: Be an active part of shaping Siteline's culture, helping to recruit and mentor new team members and cultivating a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.

👋 What We're Looking For

Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of professional software experience, including meaningful backend experience and exposure to full-stack work. You've designed and scaled complex backend systems, worked with internal and external APIs, and shipped to real customers on a regular basis.

Modern tech: Familiarity working with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, React, and Postgres.

Problem solver: You're good at understanding and breaking down complex problems. You are resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity, and can make good decisions and forward progress even when requirements are unclear.

Product focused: You take pride in building scalable, resilient software that delights users and advances the company’s business objectives.

Great communicator: You engage thoughtfully and effectively with others, and you're an attentive and empathetic listener. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences and confidently break down tricky topics in writing and in person.

Growth mindset: You're eager to learn, comfortable asking questions, and receptive to feedback.

🍪 Brownie Points

Growth-phase startup: You've worked in a fast-paced startup environment in the past and are excited to do it again. You have experience managing infrastructure to support rapid growth and product usage at scale.

Leadership: You have experience mentoring fellow team members and are considered a leader among your peers. You're approachable and enjoy helping others on the team continually grow.

Creativity: You like to express yourself creatively through hobbies or interests outside of coding, and feel inspired to think outside the box in and away from your job.

Move Quickly, Together

Speed is our advantage, but alignment is our path to victory. We will go farthest, fastest if we work in unison. Prioritize the mission, establish clear owners and deliverables, and execute with confidence.

Reach for the Sky

We are curious, open-minded, and courageous. We challenge ourselves and each other to ask more questions, push boundaries, and deliver excellence every day.

Construction is a scrappy industry where companies must do more with less. Same here. Operate efficiently, optimize strategically, and always get the most bang for our buck.

Be the Steel

Builds fail when the foundation is faulty. The same is true for us. Exercise good judgment, deliver on your commitments, and know your capacity—every base has its threshold, after all. Most importantly, back your teammates. We’re stronger than reinforced concrete when we support each other.

Build Our Fanbase

Our mission is to grow the size of the pie for everyone in construction. We only achieve that audacious goal if we keep our customers front and center. Work tenaciously to build smarter systems that solve real problems for our customers, positively impact their businesses and lives, and make them loyal fans.

Shoot Straight

We speak directly, candidly, and respectfully. We prioritize transparency, err on over-communicating, and understand that differing opinions and perspectives are part of a healthy company. Ultimately, it’s okay to disagree with—but still commit to—the chosen direction.
