Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented Senior Tableau Administrator to join our Analytics Platform team within the Analytics organization. This role owns governance, monitoring, performance, and administrative automation for our self-hosted Tableau Server environment on AWS, and brings deep working knowledge of the underlying server, networking, and authentication architecture to troubleshoot issues and partner effectively with the teams that own them. The Tableau Administrator will partner closely with IT/Infrastructure, Information Security, Data Engineering, Product/Engineering, and Client Services to deliver a secure, reliable, and scalable analytics platform that supports both internal reporting and client-facing dashboards embedded in Judi.

Position Responsibilities:

Infrastructure, Networking & Security Partnership

Serve as the Analytics subject matter expert on Tableau Server architecture across development, staging, and production environments, partnering with IT/Infrastructure on installations, upgrades, patching, and capacity planning.

Apply working knowledge of multi-node topology, high availability, backup/restore, and disaster recovery to inform infrastructure decisions and validate upgrades and recovery tests.

Leverage understanding of AWS hosting, Linux/Windows server environments, load balancers, reverse proxies, DNS, SSL/TLS certificates, and firewalls/VPCs to diagnose issues and escalate effectively to owning teams.

Partner with IT and Information Security on authentication and identity integrations (SAML/SSO via Okta/Azure AD, SCIM, AD/LDAP), troubleshooting user access and login issues.

Partner with Data Engineering on secure Snowflake connectivity (OAuth, key-pair authentication, drivers, private connectivity) and resolve connection-related issues.

Support security audits, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST) for the analytics platform.

Governance & Access Management

Own the Tableau governance model, including site and project structure, permissions, groups, and least-privilege access patterns.

Design and enforce row-level security (RLS) and data access controls for internal and client-facing content.

Manage content certification, naming conventions, content lifecycle (stale content cleanup), and licensing/seat allocation.

Maintain documentation of the permissions model, access requests, and audit trails to ensure the platform is auditable and supportable

Embedded Analytics Support

Partner with Product/Engineering and Client Services to ensure embedded Tableau content within Judi and client-facing portals is secure, performant, and correctly permissioned for each client.

Apply knowledge of Connected Apps, JWT-based authentication, and embedding APIs to help troubleshoot embedded authentication, session, and permissions issues.

Monitoring, Performance & Reliability

Proactively monitor platform health using Tableau Resource Monitoring Tool, Admin Insights, and queries against the Tableau repository (PostgreSQL).

Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks across server processes, extract refreshes, backgrounder queues, and data source connections.

Triage and resolve production incidents (outages, refresh failures, authentication/access issues) with urgency, coordinating across partner teams.

Report on platform usage, adoption, performance, and reliability, and drive actionable remediation plans.

Automation & Release Support

Automate administrative tasks using TSM, the Tableau REST API, tabcmd, and Python (Tableau Server Client).

Support and automate the content promotion process (dev → stage → prod), including CCB/ITIL change processes and GitHub-based workflows, in partnership with the Analytics Platform team.

Leverage the Tableau Migration SDK and related tooling to support content migrations between sites and environments.

Create and maintain runbooks, standards, and playbooks for upgrades, incident response, access provisioning, and environment management.

Collaboration & Compliance

Serve as the technical subject matter expert for Tableau Server across Analytics, IT, and Engineering.

Partner with Data Engineering on data source connectivity, extract strategy, and Snowflake performance and cost considerations

Mentor analysts and developers on platform best practices, performance-conscious design, and governance standards.

Ensure adherence to company compliance standards, including reporting any noncompliance, and adherence to the Capital Rx Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience administering Tableau Server in a production environment.

Proficient in Tableau workbook development.

Understanding of authentication and identity integrations (SAML/SSO, SCIM, AD/LDAP) and how they apply to Tableau Server.

Familiarity with Tableau Server hosted on AWS and Linux and/or Windows server environments.

Experience automating administration with TSM, REST API, tabcmd, and scripting (Python and/or PowerShell/Bash).

Strong understanding of Tableau governance: site/project design, permissions, row-level security, and content management.

Proficiency in SQL, including querying the Tableau repository for monitoring and auditing.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear runbooks and documentation and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
