Position Duties

THE NURSING PROGRAM AT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND invites applications for a Simulation Specialist to provide operational and technical support for the daily readiness and effective functioning of Loyola Maryland's Clinical Lab and Simulation Center. This position is a 12-month, full-time staff position that supports simulation-based learning, clinical skills instruction, and laboratory operations within the nursing program. The Simulation Specialist works collaboratively with the Director of the Clinical Lab and Simulation Center, nursing faculty, Information Technology staff, and simulation vendors to ensure the effective operation of simulation technologies, audiovisual systems, clinical skills equipment, and student learning spaces. The Simulation Specialist assists with the setup, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and organization of simulation and skills laboratory activities, while supporting Loyola’s Jesuit mission and commitment to care for the whole person.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be prepared to:

Provide operational support for simulation and clinical skills activities. Prepare, configure, test, operate, and rest simulation rooms, clinical skills spaces, highfidelity simulators, task trainers, standardized patient spaces, and associated equipment in accordance with established procedures and faculty plans.

Operate audiovisual capture and recording systems during live activities; support multiple simultaneous simulations; responds to operational needs as they arise; and provides technical assistance to help minimize disruption to student learning.

Provide technical support for simulation technologies and related systems; troubleshoot and resolve routine hardware, software, audiovisual, connectivity, and integration issues; perform routine and preventive maintenance; support system updates, user access, and operational readiness; document serving history; coordinate repairs, warranties, and vendor or Information; maintain working knowledge of Laerdal, SimCapture or comparable platforms and emerging simulation technologies

Provide day-to-day support for clinical laboratory operations, equipment, and supplies. Maintain organized and secure storage; monitor inventory and established par levels; receives and tracks equipment; coordinates cleaning, restocking, and operational readiness; maintains maintenance, warranty, and lifecycle records; and communicates replacement, repair, and purchasing needs to leadership. Support the safe handling of clinical equipment, simulated

medications, sharps substitutes, cleaning products, and artificial body fluids in accordance with University procedures.

Maintain standard operating procedures, checklists, schedules, and quality assurance processes for the Center. Train and support faculty, staff, students, and student employees in the appropriate use of simulation technologies and laboratory equipment; assist with coordinating the work of student employees during setup and reset activities. Support the implementation and use of virtual reality, immersive learning, Exxat, ExamSoft, and other educational systems; assists with testing new technologies; protect confidential recordings and student information; and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and the learner experience for leadership review.

  • Loyola Maryland’s innovative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program, which welcomed its first students in Fall 2025, uniquely integrates an exceptional liberal arts foundation with a holistic nursing education rooted in the Jesuit tradition of care and social justice. Students begin nursing coursework in their first semester and begin their education in direct patient care in the second year. The program includes a wide range of clinical rotations at our nursing education partner, Mercy Medical Center, a Magnet-recognized hospital known for nursing excellence. The BSN curriculum emphasizes competency-based education, interprofessional collaboration, simulation and skills mastery, and reflective practice.

Clinical Lab and Simulation Center

The Clinical Lab and Simulation Center is located within the new Bloomfield Hall addition to the Donnelly Science Center and includes dedicated nursing education spaces designed to support experiential and competency-based learning. The center features four simulation rooms equipped for high-fidelity patient care scenarios, clinical skills laboratory spaces designed to replicate contemporary healthcare environments, two dedicated debriefing rooms, faculty control and observation spaces, and secure equipment and supply storage areas. The facility is designed to support both individual simulation experiences and multiple simultaneous simulation activities, including the capability to conduct multi-simulation experiences within the clinical skills laboratory areas.

The simulation environment incorporates advanced healthcare simulation technologies, including high-fidelity simulation mannequins, audiovisual capture and recording systems, simulation management platforms such as Laerdal SimCapture, and emerging virtual reality (VR) learning technologies to enhance immersive clinical education experiences. Loyola Maryland is expanding the integration of VR-based simulation activities to support the development of clinical judgment, communication, patient safety, and experiential learning across the curriculum. The center supports the development of clinical reasoning, psychomotor skills, teamwork, and patient-centered care competencies while reflecting Loyola’s commitment to innovation, excellence in nursing education, and the Jesuit tradition of care for the whole person.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this position ranges from $27.20/hour - $34.00/hour. Loyola Maryland is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health, vision, and dental insurance and contributions towards retirement and childcare. Required Education:

Associate’s degree with experience in simulation technology, information technology, audiovisual technology, healthcare, education, or a related field.

Required Certifications/Licenses:

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare is preferred. An employee who is not CHSOS-certified at the time of hire will be expected to meet the certification eligibility requirements and sit for the CHSOS examination within the first year of employment.

Required Work Experience:

At least three years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare simulation operations, healthcare or science laboratory operations, educational technology, audiovisual or information technology support, or a closely related technical environment.
