Job Description Summary
We are looking for a Software Engineering Specialist to contribute to the development of clinical application software for patient monitoring products.
In this software engineering role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team developing software that helps clinicians monitor patients and make timely care decisions. The work includes designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining application software for patient monitors, including visualization of physiological measurements, alarms, trends, statuses, graphics, and reliable data transfer within the system and to external networks.
You will learn and apply modern software engineering practices in a regulated medical device environment, with support from experienced engineers and the wider team. The role includes responsible use of Generative AI tools as part of the software development workflow to support productivity, learning, code quality, testing, documentation, and everyday engineering work.
This is a great opportunity for an early-career software engineer who is curious, collaborative, quality-minded, and eager to grow in health technology.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and maintain clinical application software for patient monitoring products as part of an agile software development team.
- Develop software features related to visualization of medical measurements, including numbers, waveforms, statuses, trends, graphics, alarms, and measurement data transfer within the system and to external networks.
- Contribute to feature development under the guidance of more experienced engineers, gradually building technical ownership of defined tasks and smaller feature areas.
- Apply modern software engineering methods, tools, and practices to develop robust, maintainable, and high-quality software that meets the expectations of the medical device industry.
- Participate actively in design reviews, code reviews, testing, defect analysis, and required documentation.
- Write and maintain unit tests and other automated tests and contribute to improving testability and software quality.
- Use AI coding assistants responsibly as part of daily software engineering work, for example in ticket investigation, code generation, test creation, documentation, refactoring, debugging, and learning, in accordance with company policies.
- Work as an active member of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary agile team, contributing to shared goals and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with software engineers, testers, clinical experts, system engineers, and other stakeholders in a cross-functional, multi-cultural, and global environment.
- Continuously build technical skills, product understanding, and knowledge of software development in a regulated healthcare environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Hands-on experience or solid academic/project background in object-oriented software design and development, preferably with C++.
- Basic understanding of modern software development practices, agile ways of working, and software quality activities such as reviews, testing, and documentation.
- Experience or interest in application software, user interface development, embedded software, or software platforms.
- Willingness to learn and use AI coding assistants responsibly as part of everyday software development work.
- Demonstrated engineering curiosity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-starter attitude—eager and quick to learn, experiment, ask questions, and grow.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with team members to achieve shared goals.
- Growth mindset with commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
- Legally authorized to work in Finland.
Desired qualifications
- Experience or coursework related to technologies used in medical or embedded software systems, such as Linux, RTOS, Qt/QML, embedded systems, configuration management, continuous integration, test automation, or Python.
- Experience with user interface development, especially Qt/QML.
- Basic understanding of multithreaded programming or interest in learning concurrency concepts.
- Experience working with a larger code base through studies, internships, thesis work, open-source projects, or professional experience.
- Interest in physiological measurements, clinical workflows, patient monitoring, or healthcare technology.
- Interest in software development for safety-critical, regulated, or high-quality product environments.
We offer
- Work for a great purpose—your work will help improve patient care and save lives.
- A unique opportunity to learn and develop leading-edge health technologies and products.
- Supportive colleagues and a team with great spirit.
- Opportunity to learn from talented experts in the health technology industry.
- Access to world-class processes, tools, and professionals across different functions.
- A diverse, multi-cultural working environment where you can contribute and grow.
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Regular technical and soft skills learning opportunities to build your knowledge and skills.
- Possibility to grow your skills and abilities to support future roles in the organization, including technical and managerial career paths.
