Fire Sprinkler Designer

Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer to support the preparation of detailed CAD drawings for the efficient and effective placement of sprinkler products and systems.

Role Overview

In this role, you will create accurate sprinkler system layouts, apply NFPA standards, and coordinate design details with internal teams and installation partners. You will help ensure designs are practical, code-compliant, and ready for successful field execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings for sprinkler system placement.
  • Interpret and apply NFPA standards based on building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
  • Design and layout sprinkler systems using AutoCAD-based software packages and coordinate piping with other building components.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to support system design accuracy.
  • Perform field checks of completed designs to verify accuracy before installation.
  • Work closely with district contracting teams to understand customer contracts, design schedules, and installation delivery needs.
  • Coordinate deliveries of system materials to the job site to support the optimum installation start date.
  • Assist sales with design estimates.
  • Mentor others in the accurate execution of sprinkler design using your experience, proficiency, and knowledge.

How You Will Do It

  • Own your work with safety, integrity, and accountability so designs are accurate, practical, and ready for field use.
  • Stay close to the work by understanding the contract, site conditions, building features, and installation sequence before finalizing the layout.
  • Remove obstacles for customers and installation crews by coordinating design timing, material needs, and field verification early.
  • Improve every day through careful checking, clear communication, and thoughtful problem-solving when design details change.
  • Work as one team with district contracting teams, sales, and field partners by sharing information clearly and respecting different perspectives.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1-5 years of fire sprinkler design experience.
  • Working experience with AutoCAD, HydraCAD, Sprinkler Design Software, or equivalent sprinkler design software.

Nice to Have

  • Ability to solve basic math problems including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MSOffice, Sprinkler Design Software, and a hydraulic calculation program.
  • Experience interpreting and applying NFPA standards for Automatic Sprinkler System Layout.
  • NICET Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout.
