This role drives projects from site selection, site evaluation, budget estimate, concept design, schematic design, detail design through construction readiness, ensuring launches meet Plan of Record requirements for timeline, quality, and financial targets while building a robust 3+ year pipeline to anticipate future capacity needs.
  • You will reduce business risk by analyzing and developing projects that define the next generation of high-performing fulfillment centers across AMET. Working at the intersection of real estate, design, and construction, you'll evaluate opportunities, influence strategic decisions, and establish the foundation for successful project execution. This role offers significant impact on AMET's infrastructure growth and the opportunity to develop future leaders by identifying and coaching talent within your team.
  • Key job responsibilities
  • Strategic Project Leadership: Lead pre-construction activities (site selection, site evaluation, budget estimate, concept design, schematic design, detail design) for complex projects, partnering with Design & Construction stakeholders and Real Estate teams to develop construction and site strategies that deliver optimal quality and business outcomes.
  • Risk Management & Analysis: Identify process improvements, analyze design conflicts, evaluate resources, and predict and mitigate risks throughout the pre-construction phase. Balance strategic initiative deployment with consistent project management leadership.
  • Critical Decision Making: Assess complex situations requiring leadership visibility and involvement. Apply sound judgment to navigate decisions, weighing risks and opportunities while determining appropriate escalation paths.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and drive cross-functional teams to deliver results and execute project deliverables independently. Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Technical & Analytical Excellence: Apply analytical skills to navigate local regulations and customer requirements. Challenge current practices and develop innovative solutions that meet timelines, raise the bar, and exceed expectations.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Create and own written communications to business partners and stakeholders on pre-construction matters. Build collaborative, influential relationships within GES and with critical stakeholders inside and outside Amazon.
  • Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot issues independently and drive them to closure with minimal supervision. Navigate internal and external barriers while managing multicultural teams and facilitating stakeholder alignment.
  • Travel: Up to 50% travel across AMET region to support site evaluations and construction oversight.
  • A day in the life
  • As the AMET Head of Pre-Construction, you will represent Amazon GES in ensuring the successful delivery of pre-construction phases (site selection, site evaluation, budget estimate, concept design, schematic design, detail design) for Amazon's projects while strategically advancing processes, health & safety standards, and sustainability performance. You will lead and mentor large cross-functional teams, serving as the subject matter expert to guide projects from concept through construction readiness.
  • Your expertise will drive critical decisions on technical solutions, cost implications, and risk mitigation strategies that impact project safety and delivery timelines. You'll balance strategic oversight with hands-on engagement, ensuring your team delivers excellence while developing their capabilities for future leadership roles.
  • Daily activities include reviewing the pre-construction program with your team and key partner organizations, conducting site validations during the site selection process, performing due diligence assessments, managing design development, leading risk analysis, negotiating contracts and costs, and maintaining stakeholder alignment. You'll travel to sites during the evaluation process and provide construction oversight during critical project phases.
  • Strong communication skills are essential—you'll engage effectively with both frontline teams and executive leadership, translating complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations and ensuring alignment across all organizational levels.
