Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.
We are looking for a Senior Research Fellow to develop a VRFB stacks from pilot scale to commercial systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The role bridges R&D, testing, and production to enable smooth transition into large-scale deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead of vanadium redox flow battery stacks development from prototype to commercial scale while ensuring performance and reliability.
- Develop, assemble, and validate stack designs through structured testing, durability studies, and failure analysis.
- Work closely with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure designs are production-ready and cost-effective.
- Establish test rigs, SOPs, and quality benchmarks, and use performance data to drive continuous design improvement.
Job Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Mechanical engineering/chemical/electrochemical/material, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2-5 years of hands-on experience in electrochemical stack development, preferably in vanadium redox flow batteries, fuel cells, or similar systems.
- Strong practical knowledge of stack scaling, assembly, and performance testing.
- Experience with durability testing, failure analysis, and data-driven design improvement.
- Ability to work across R&D, manufacturing, and testing teams in a scale-up or pilot-to-commercial environment.
