Tapestry is a group within Google working to build the AI-powered electric grid. We are tackling one of the world’s most important infrastructure challenges: helping the energy system become more visible, understandable, reliable, affordable, abundant, and clean.

Originally born at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, Tapestry brings together experts in energy, AI, software engineering, and products to build tools that help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently.

This is a global effort. Tapestry supports partners across the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

Joining Tapestry means doing high-impact work with a multidisciplinary team tackling a problem that matters at global scale. Learn more about our team and our mission here .

About the role:

As a product design engineer, you will work closely with a talented cross-functional team to design and build an exciting suite of innovative products that push the boundaries of user experience for the energy industry. You will collaborate with product, software engineers, research, industry and ML experts to help define the future for intuitive, enterprise-grade, and state-of-the-art AI toolings that empower stakeholders and radically transform the energy space.

How you will make 10X Impact

Set design direction for complex, ambiguous product areas, turning user and business needs into simple, innovative solutions for AI-driven products..

Lead end-to-end design from strategy through execution, with a high bar for interaction design, visual craft, and shipped quality.

Prototype directly in React to explore ideas, validate interactions, and accelerate the path from design to production.

Partner closely with product, engineering, and domain experts to shape product direction, challenge assumptions, and drive cross-functional alignment.

Champion user-centered design practices and raise the quality of design across teams.

Build and evolve our production design system, creating scalable components and patterns that improve quality and accelerate development.

What you should have…

8+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of shipped products and demonstrated impact at scale.

Strong design execution across interaction and visual design, with exceptional attention to detail and craft.

Experience leading complex, ambiguous product areas and influencing direction across functions and teams.

Experience across both enterprise and startup environments, combining systems thinking with the ability to move quickly.

Strong React prototyping skills and fluency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.

Experience contributing to production code and partnering closely with engineers through implementation.

Experience building, maintaining, and evolving a production design system.

Comfort with technical abstraction, systems thinking, and complex conceptual models.

It’d be great if you also had one or more of these:

Experience designing simulation, modeling, or developer tools for expert or highly technical users.

Experience with data-intensive, geospatial, or visualization products.

Experience designing AI-powered products or features, beyond just chat interfaces.
