Summary

The Phoenix VA Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiology Technologist has overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of Diagnostic Radiology. He/she works closely with the Technologists, Radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to ensure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction.

Duties

The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) is responsible for performing radiologic procedures, as well as supervising DRTs performing exams. This position supports the Chief Technologist. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Works closely with the technologists, radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality screening exam results. Identifies, and implements methods of improving efficiency and effectiveness of exams. Coordinates and directs radiologic exams needing to be performed. Assigns workload to DRTs being supervised, based on priorities, and difficulty of exam. Notifies the radiologist of significant findings that require immediate attention and further visualization. Solves work conflicts that have been brought to the attention of supervisor. Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters. Ensures quality assurance guidelines and protocols to ensure integrity of exam. Assists the Chief technologist in preparing requests for filling of vacancies and participates in selection of employee from interviewed applicants. Oversees the technical aspect of radiologic equipment operation and safety. Participates in the evaluation and recommendation of equipment purchase. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). (Please submit a copy of your certifications with your application package.) Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Assignment. The incumbent functions as section supervisor for a group of advanced DRTs at the GS-10 level and below, which may include support staff. The incumbent evaluates new products and equipment and makes recommendations to the supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. The incumbent develops and maintains protocol manuals for procedures performed in the section. The incumbent is responsible for implementation and adherence to all safety practices and policies for the section. The incumbent directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Examples of specialized experience are, but not limited to: plans and coordinates work assignments for DRTs, supervises DRTs in section, and sets goals to be accomplished by section. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, candidates must meet the following grade requirements. GS-11 Supervisory Diagnostics Radiologic Technologist Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies. Specialized experience includes but not limited to: plans and coordinates work assignments for DRTs, supervises DRTs in section, and sets goals to be accomplished by section. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: i. Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. ii. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage section workload, quality, performance, and productivity. iii. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. iv. Ability to supervise technologists performing a wide variety of difficult radiographic exams (CT, MRI, Special Procedures, Mammography, Ultrasound). v. Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions, evaluate subordinate performance, recommend appointments, advancements, or recommend or take appropriate disciplinary actions. vi. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. Please make sure that your experience is evident in your resume. Physical Requirements: ???????The physical demands of the work include some bending and carrying of moderately heavy articles. Patients sometimes are assisted to achieve proper positioning which may require reaching or work in strained positions. Reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required), prolonged walking, prolonged standing, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), speed in working, and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time.
