Summary
This position is located in the Medical Supply Distribution areas of the Logistics Service Department within the Long Beach Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS). The incumbent ensures that supplies and material are distributed to all areas including: wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and material are delivered in sterile and operational condition. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical resources and shelf life. Communicates with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding medical supplies. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated. Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in a computerized inventory management system. Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking. Utilizes a computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system. Utilizes computerized systems including bar-coding and automated inventory systems for the delivery and inventory control of supplies. Utilizes an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes. May perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: TBD. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/09/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Grade Requirements: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Supply Technician, GS-5 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: delivering sterile medical supplies, maintaining and replenishing inventory, monitoring recalls and expirations, preparing specialty carts, and using computerized and automated inventory systems to track, distribute, and ensure the integrity of supplies, while coordinating with clinical staff and vendors to resolve supply needs. . OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 years above high school.
