The Tax Analyst supports all aspects of the Company's tax responsibilities, including federal and state income taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, business licenses, tax accounting, and special projects. This role provides broad exposure to multiple tax disciplines and provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth within a dynamic and collaborative environment. In this role, the Tax Analyst will work closely with the Director of Tax and assist with tax compliance, reporting, audits, planning initiatives, special projects, and process improvement efforts.

  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Federal and State Income Tax

Assist in the preparation and review of federal and state income tax workpapers.

Gather and analyze financial data required for tax return preparation.

Assist in the review of tax returns prepared by external service providers.

Support quarterly and annual tax provision calculations under ASC 740.

Maintain required tax schedules.

Track filing payment deadlines.

Track and respond to routine tax authority correspondence.

Assist with state apportionment, nexus reviews, and state tax filings.

Monitor tax law and regulatory developments.

Sales and Use Tax

Gather and/or review information for sales and use tax returns.

Analyze transactions for indirect tax compliance.

Assist with taxability determinations and exemption certificate management.

Research state-specific sales and use tax requirements.

Support sales tax audits and inquiries.

Property Tax

Assist in gathering and analyzing data for personal and real property tax renditions and returns.

Track assessment notices and payment deadlines.

Work with external services providers, review property tax assessments, and identify and action appeal opportunities.

Other Tax Compliance

Assist with annual reports, business licenses, and gross receipts tax filings.

Prepare supporting documentation for various tax filings and notices.

Maintain tax calendars and filing deadlines.

Tax Audits and Controversy

Collect and organize information requested by tax authorities.

Support federal, state, sales tax, and property tax audits.

Maintain audit documentation and tax records.

Process Improvement and Special Projects

Maintain and improve tax compliance processes and documentation.

Assist with the use of technology to streamline and automate projects.

Perform tax research using a digital tax library and AI and summarize findings.

Participate in tax planning and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Ability to analyze large data sets and identify discrepancies.

Understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Eagerness to learn and develop expertise across multiple tax disciplines.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or related field.

Experience: 3 to 7 years of tax and accounting experience required. Experience with corporate taxation, sales, or tax compliance preferred.

Preferred Certification: CPA

The salary range for this full-time role is $88,000.00-$117,333.35 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
