the posting

XNRGY Climate Systems is a North American leader in the sustainable design and advanced manufacturing of custom air-handling and liquid-cooling systems. With decades of HVAC engineering and manufacturing expertise, XNRGY delivers innovative, energy-efficient solutions for mission-critical industries, including hyperscale and modular data centers, healthcare, life sciences, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing.

XNRGY is building and expanding its mission-critical service function to support its growing installed base of liquid-cooling and chiller products. As part of this growth, XNRGY is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to convert complex engineering knowledge into clear, controlled content that field technicians can execute under demanding site conditions.

The Technical Writer, Service Operations will develop and maintain startup procedures, checklists, field records, installation, operation, and maintenance manuals; service bulletins; quick-reference materials; and other field-facing technical content for XNRGY’s centrifugal chillers and related mission-critical products.

This is a technical-authoring role—not a marketing, proposal-writing, or corporate-communications position. The successful candidate must be able to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, control drawings, equipment submittals, and other engineering source material. This individual will work closely with engineers and field technicians to ensure procedures are technically accurate, executable, and suitable for use in safety-critical environments.

The longer-term objective is to deliver troubleshooting guidance through a technician-facing mobile application rather than relying solely on conventional documents. This role will help establish the structured, reusable content model needed to support print, web, and application-based delivery. The Technical Writer will not be responsible for developing the application but will serve as the owner of its technical content and work with the development team to define its structure, behavior, and field usability.

The successful candidate will inherit a substantially developed technical library rather than begin with a blank page. The library includes approximately 50 registered documents, an established naming convention, defined number ranges by lifecycle phase, and a fixed commissioning sequence. The immediate priority will be converting advanced drafts into controlled, release-ready documents, closing content gaps, and establishing a sustainable review and maintenance cadence.

Responsibilities

Author and maintain field procedures, checklists, inspection and commissioning records, installation, operation, and maintenance content; service bulletins; and quick-reference materials for the assigned product range.

Develop clear, executable procedures using unambiguous instructions, explicit action verbs, defined acceptance criteria, and stop-gate requirements when work must not proceed without verification.

Work from engineering source material, design documentation, equipment submittals, supplier literature, and direct interviews with engineers and field technicians.

Produce participant workbooks, quick-reference cards, component-identification materials, and other technical content supporting technician training.

Create and manage technical illustrations, redlines, and photography using CAD source material and site imagery.

Maintain the controlled-document register, including document numbers, titles, ownership, status, approval, and revision history.

Apply established revision-control requirements consistently across templates and completed field records.

Administer the technical change-notice process, including the withdrawal and replacement of superseded documents.

Coordinate translation through XNRGY’s external providers and maintain equivalence between language versions as documents are revised.

Route documents for Product Engineering review and approval and maintain the associated approval records.

Own and maintain templates, the technical style guide, and editorial standards for field-facing content.

Design field forms that are practical for use on paper or a tablet, remain useful when partially completed, and clearly identify required information.

Develop reusable content components so shared technical information remains consistent across multiple documents and delivery channels.

Structure troubleshooting content as searchable fault entries, guided diagnostic paths, machine-specific procedures, and evidence-capture requirements suitable for future application delivery.

Work with the application-development team to define the technical-content structure, data model, user workflow, and field requirements for a technician-facing troubleshooting application.

Observe technicians using procedures in factory, test-cell, and customer-site environments and incorporate their feedback into future revisions.

Maintain a regular content-review cycle driven by field experience, failure data, product changes, and service requirements.

Support the Product Service Engineer, Product Engineering, Technical Publications, Training, and Service Operations with accurate and controlled technical content.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of trade qualifications and demonstrated engineering-level competence.

Five or more years of experience authoring technical documentation for industrial, mechanical, electrical, energy, or comparable equipment.

A portfolio of procedural, maintenance, service, or other technical documentation. Marketing or general business-writing samples will not satisfy this requirement.

Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, control drawings, general-arrangement drawings, and equipment submittals.

Working familiarity with HVAC, refrigeration, rotating equipment, power electronics, or a comparable industrial domain.

Familiarity with electrical and mechanical safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, stored energy, DC-bus discharge, arc-flash hazards, energized work, and rotating equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge of digital-content creation and sufficient exposure to application development to work effectively with developers on content structure, data models, and user behavior.

Familiarity with AI productivity tools used for technical authoring, along with the judgment to use them for drafting, restructuring, and consistency review while retaining responsibility for technical accuracy.

Demonstrated ability to extract undocumented knowledge from engineers and technicians and convert it into content they can technically validate and approve.

Practical experience working within a controlled-document or quality-management environment, including revision control, approval routing, change notices, and withdrawal of superseded content.

Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including styles, templates, and structured documents.

Competence with PDF production, technical-illustration tools, and a version-control or document-management system.

Exceptional written English proficiency and the ability to produce precise, technically accurate instructions.

Willingness to complete a technical-writing assessment as part of the selection process.

Preferred Qualifications

A relevant trade qualification combined with an engineering degree.

Structured-authoring experience using DITA, S1000D, a component content-management system, or a comparable methodology.

Hands-on experience developing mobile or progressive web applications, or experience serving as the content owner for an application-development team.

Previous experience producing OEM equipment documentation, installation, operation, and maintenance manuals, or field-service literature.
