Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. You will:

Collaborate with the team to analyze experiment results, document findings, and help integrate the most successful strategies into production

Prototype scheduling algorithms aimed at smoothing out computational load

Run benchmarks to analyze the speed, throughput and resource efficiency of related systems, and specific implementations

You have:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, particularly in data structures & algorithms

Strong software development skills with proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python) and SQL. Desire to learn and work extensively in C++

Familiarity with or strong interest in foundational concepts related to distributed systems, data processing pipelines, or operating systems

Familiarity with statistical concepts necessary for interpreting large datasets

We prefer:

Strong general coding skills and the ability to write robust software. C++ proficiency is a strong plus

Experience or coursework related to distributed systems, operating systems (specifically task scheduling), or data processing pipelines.

Familiarity with software profiling and benchmarking

Experience working with large datasets and utilizing data analysis tools to evaluate system performance.
