The program requires the intern to commit to 10 weeks of participation in all formal training, mentoring, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to interact with senior leaders.

Program starts June 1, 2027, and ends August 6, 2027

Pay rate: $25 per hour.

About the team and role

The Research Analytics & Insights (RAIN) team uses Vizient data and research methods to generate evidence and insights that help healthcare organizations understand performance, quality outcomes, and emerging industry questions. The team supports internal research priorities and member-focused analyses by combining background research, thoughtful study design, data analysis, and clear communication of findings.

The intern will receive hands-on training in the Vizient Clinical Data Base (CDB) and contribute to a defined healthcare analytics project. Working with the RAIN team, the intern will develop an analytic question, identify relevant data and literature, conduct and interpret analyses, and translate findings into a concise final presentation or research deliverable.

What You’ll Do

Complete training in the Vizient CDB online tool and use its front-end interface to support healthcare data analysis.

Contribute to a defined research or analytics project addressing a RAIN team priority or client-relevant healthcare question.

Conduct focused literature and background research, refine analytic questions, and identify appropriate measures and datasets.

Perform data extraction, validation, descriptive analysis, and interpretation to identify meaningful trends and insights.

Collaborate with RAIN colleagues and cross-functional partners to review methods, findings, and implications.

Develop clear documentation, visualizations, and a final presentation or written research deliverable for technical and nontechnical audiences.

Support updates to internal SharePoint content and team knowledge resources, as needed.

What You’ll Learn

How healthcare data and research are used to evaluate quality, utilization, outcomes, and performance.

Practical use of administrative claims-based data and a structured workflow for moving from a research question to an analytic result.

Methods for literature review, measure definition, data validation, interpretation, and responsible communication of findings.

How research and analytics teams partner with internal stakeholders and healthcare organizations.

Professional skills in project planning, data storytelling, presentation development, and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in health services research, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, health informatics, healthcare administration, or a related quantitative field; an undergraduate degree must be completed before the internship begins.

Coursework or applied experience in quantitative research methods, statistics, healthcare analytics, or study design.

Experience using at least one analytic tool or language, such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, Excel, Power BI, or Tableau, through coursework, research, employment, or a prior internship.

Demonstrated experience working with data, including cleaning or validating data, conducting analysis, interpreting results, and communicating findings.

Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage a defined project and collaborate in a hybrid team environment.

Interest in healthcare quality, outcomes, utilization, or health services research.
