As a locally owned and operated firm, we’re proud to call Grand Rapids, Greenville, Holland, Muskegon, and St. Joseph home.

Your Impact

As a Winter Tax Intern, you will gain hands-on experience preparing individual income tax returns while learning how a public accounting firm operates during tax season. • Preparing primarily individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
  • Assisting with more complex individual returns, personal property tax returns, and business or partnership returns as opportunities are available
  • Preparing trial balances, workpapers, and depreciation schedules using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Learning and following the firm’s policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Developing an understanding of the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct established by the AICPA
  • Communicating questions and project updates to members of the tax team
  • Participating in firm activities and building relationships with professionals across the organization

What We’re Looking For

  • Current undergraduate, graduate, nontraditional student, or recent graduate
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in accounting or a related field
  • Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word

What You Will Gain

  • Paid, hands-on experience in public accounting
  • Exposure to individual tax preparation and other types of tax work

  • Support through Hungerford’s formal Buddy Program
  • Opportunities to build technical, communication, and professional skills
  • An understanding of the people, processes, and career opportunities within a public accounting firm
  • The opportunity to pursue academic credit in coordination with your school’s faculty and career services policies
