Description
Gregory & Appel is an independent, Indianapolis-based insurance agency with deep roots, a strong reputation, and a team that believes work should be both meaningful and enjoyable. We're growing, we're always looking for great people, and we'd love to have you be a part of what's next!
We’re looking for an experienced Account Executive to lead renewals and manage a portfolio of employee benefits clients. You’ll be the trusted advisor and primary client contact, working closely with Producers, Account Managers, Operations, and carrier partners to retain and grow your accounts. You’ll manage your book with minimal Producer support while partnering with them on strategy and new business.
Focus Area: Employee Benefits
As part of the Employee Benefits team at Gregory & Appel, you’ll serve as the day-to-day advisor for employer clients, helping them design, place, and manage their group benefits programs. Your focus will include:
- Leading the annual renewal cycle for group medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
- Preparing renewal strategy using claims and utilization data, benchmarking, and plan design analysis.
- Marketing programs to carriers, negotiating terms, and comparing proposals to recommend the best fit for each client.
- Guiding clients through open enrollment, employee communications, and benefits administration and technology needs.
- Helping clients stay on top of benefits compliance, including ACA, ERISA, and COBRA.
- Partnering with Producers on account strategy and supporting new business with proposals, submissions, and prospect and finalist meetings.
What You’ll Do
- Own assigned renewals from start to finish: set timelines, gather data, review options, negotiate with carriers, and present recommendations.
- Build long-term client relationships and proactively engage clients throughout the year.
- Lead renewal meetings and coordinate internal teams, carriers, and vendors to deliver on commitments.
- Resolve client issues and escalations with a solutions-oriented approach.
- Identify coverage gaps and cross-sell opportunities, and partner with Producers on new business and referrals.
- Keep accurate account records in agency systems and stay current on market, carrier, and regulatory developments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of insurance experience in account management, underwriting, producing, consulting, or client service in employee benefits.
- Proven ability to independently manage client accounts and relationships.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including with senior executives and employee groups.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and communication skills, with the ability to juggle multiple accounts and deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain complex financial and plan information clearly.
- Active Life & Health license
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Applied Epic (or a similar agency management system).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent education and experience considered.
- Willingness to pursue continuing education and professional development.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required by the role and client needs including meetings and open enrollment support.
Insurance is what we do, but people are why we do it. For our clients, we provide guidance. For our colleagues, we help them grow professionally and personally. For our community, we aim to build a legacy of equity and belonging.
