Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP), a statewide nonprofit law firm, seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager is a member of GLSP’s Accounting Team.

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is a statewide, nonprofit public interest law firm in Georgia that offers free civil legal services to low-income individuals, fostering equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. GLSP is founded on the belief that everyone deserves high-quality legal services regardless of income, age, race, or other demographic factors.

GLSP runs 10 regional offices that serve Georgians with low incomes living outside metro Atlanta in 154 of the state’s 159 counties. GLSP employs approximately 182 full-time staff members. We provide free legal aid across a wide range of civil issues, including family law, housing, access to public benefits, eviction prevention, farmworkers' rights, and educational access.

Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervising and directing the work of the Accounting Department while ensuring that the Program’s daily accounting needs are met. The position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial operations, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements, regulations, policies, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

The Accounting Manager works closely with the Sr. Director of Finance, Accounting Department staff, Regional Office Managers, Administrative Assistants, field offices, and the Program’s management team to support sound financial administration throughout GLSP.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fiscal Management

· Supervise and direct the work of Accounting Department staff and ensure the daily accounting needs of the Program are met.

· Ensure GLSP complies with Legal Services Corporation (LSC) requirements, regulations, and policies, as well as requirements of other funding agencies and generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

· Ensure journal entries are reviewed and submitted in a timely manner so that books are closed by the 15th of each month.

· Monitor local and Program-wide spending and notify the Director of Finance of potential problems or concerns.

· Maintain an effective working relationship with the Program’s audit firm to support an efficient audit process.

Payroll Administration

· Supervise the Sr. Accountant.

· Monitor the bi-weekly payroll process and identify and implement improvements as necessary.

· Prepare, or supervise the preparation of, required quarterly and annual payroll reports and statements.

Accounts Payable

· Supervise the Accounts Payable Clerk.

· Monitor the bi-weekly processing of accounts payable and identify and implement improvements as necessary.

· Supervise the bi-weekly processing of the Program’s payables.

· Supervise the filing and storage of accounts payable materials.

· Monitor the Program’s purchasing systems and report problems to the Director of Finance.

· Review and approve payable items under $1,000.

· Produce 1099s at year-end.

Grants and Contracts

· Supervise the Grants and Contracts Accountant.

· Monitor the monthly submissions of grant reimbursements.

· Work closely with the Grants and Contracts Accountant on grant site visits.

· Produce and submit grant reimbursements as needed.

General Ledger and Financial Reporting

· Process monthly financial reports and distribute them as necessary.

· Adjust and revise the chart of accounts as needed.

· Reconcile monthly revenue.

Inventory Management

· Ensure proper LSC-approved inventory controls are maintained.

· Add, delete, and correct inventory records as needed.

· Maintain computerized inventory control systems.

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

The Accounting Manager will:

· Delegate and direct the work of the Accounting Department, including Accounting staff, Regional Office Managers, and Administrative Assistants.

· Monitor the quality and quantity of items received from field offices and special projects.

· Ensure Program policies and procedures are followed by staff with respect to matters processed by the Accounting Department.

· Identify administrative needs and potential problems and bring them to the attention of the Program’s Management Team.

· Work collaboratively with Office Managers to ensure that GLSP accounting policies and procedures are consistently followed throughout the Program.

Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting or finance.

· Experience in managing an integrated accounting system; experience in Blackbaud Financial Edge is a plus.

· Experience in fund accounting and investments required. Nonprofit accounting experience, including audits, preferred.

· Must maintain advanced knowledge of relevant office technologies and equipment. This includes but is not limited to Adobe Pro, Legal Server, Microsoft Office applications, and Zoom.

· Must maintain workload and resources in an organized manner. Must have a strong ability to prioritize and communicate workload.

· Ability to review documents for accuracy and be respectful of deadlines.

· Must be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail-oriented.

· Must be able to work in a team setting and collaboratively achieve team goals.

· Must communicate professionally and effectively in speech and writing with the ability to present information to top management, the finance committee, peers, and other groups.

· Customer service orientation and ability to respond with sensitivity, patience, enthusiasm, and timeliness.

· Supervision experience is required.

· Must be dependable and punctual.

· Salary range: $74,850 - $125,186, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
