Accounting Manager

About REBEL

REBEL is a category creator - the leading returns recommerce marketplace. We take returned and excess inventory from top retailers and brands, let our technology inspect, grade and price every item, and resell it to shoppers at up to 70% off.

We process tens of thousands retail returns a week across 100+ categories, and were named Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2026. We’re a high-growth, top tier venture-backed company, and we’re looking for a strategic finance leader to help us continue to scale.

About the Role

REBEL is hiring a high-ownership Accounting Manager to own day-to-day accounting execution and help scale our financial infrastructure as the business grows. You'll report to our Controller and work closely with Finance leadership on the close, reporting, and controls.

This is a build-and-own role, not a delegation role. You'll be hands-on in the details, from journal entries and reconciliations to inventory and COGS, while also improving processes, strengthening controls, and building systems that support our next stage of growth. You'll take full ownership of the numbers, communicate clearly with leadership, and flag risks early.

REBEL operates across the US and Canada, so you'll help manage accounting across both entities.

What You'll Do

Close & General Ledger

Own and run the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including the close calendar, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and flux analysis

Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and own balance sheet reconciliations, including fixed assets, prepaids, and accrual schedules

Research and resolve GL discrepancies and aged reconciling items

Shorten the close by standardizing checklists, templates, and review processes, and automating manual work, including with AI tools

Revenue, Inventory & COGS

Ensure revenue is recognized correctly across our sales channels, including returns, refunds, and marketplace fees

Reconcile inventory, COGS, and gross margin, and support SKU-level margin visibility

Support inventory accounting across our warehouse and vendor partners

AP, AR & Cash

Oversee accounts payable, including invoice processing, payment runs, vendor tax reporting (1099s), and accrual completeness reviews

Monitor for duplicate payments, fraud risk, and policy exceptions

Reconcile AR aging and partner with Sales and Ops to resolve discrepancies

Monitor cash flow and working capital, and support cash management

Multi-Entity & Tax

Monitor and reconcile intercompany balances between our US and Canadian entities

Serve as a primaryaccounting contact, working closely with external tax advisors

Reporting, Audit & Controls

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and partner with Finance leadership on reporting and board-ready materials

Support close analysis, variance analysis, and the budgeting and forecasting process

Serve as a primary point of contact for external accountants and auditors, and own audit and review timelines

Coordinate with outsourced accounting partners to keep work on schedule and accurate

Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls as we scale

Maintain the chart of accounts, and support the evaluation and migration to a new ERP alongside other system improvements (reporting tools, automation)

Cross-Functional Partnership

Partner with Operations, Sales, and Marketing to ensure financial clarity

Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for teams outside Finance

Communicate risks, variances, and performance trends proactively

Ensure proper accounting treatment for new business models and revenue streams, and support ad hoc analysis

Who You Are

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally a mix of public accounting and a high-growth company

Strong working knowledge of US GAAP

Experience owning a month-end close end to end, with a track record of shortening or rebuilding close processes

Experience with inventory accounting and complex COGS structures

Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)

A high-ownership operator who is comfortable working hands-on in the details and directly with senior leaders

Detail-oriented with a controls mindset: you catch things before they become problems

Clear communicator who can explain financial concepts to people outside Finance

Organized and able to track many open items across multiple stakeholders

Nice to Have

CPA or CA designation

Canadian accounting experience, including ASPE and Canadian tax (GST/HST)

Multi-entity close and consolidation experience, including US–Canada intercompany

eCommerce marketplace or retail tech experience

Experience with an ERP implementation or migration

Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.

Initial base salary range = $80,000 - $130,000
