About Us

Ed Seguin & Sons (ESS) is a family-owned civil construction, surface mining and aggregate company serving Northeastern Ontario since 1967. We’re growing and looking for an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our team.

Work closely with our leadership and project teams in a hands-on role where your contributions are noticed and valued. Our core values— Leadership, Teamwork, Innovation, Professionalism and Gratitude —guide how we work together.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll oversee day-to-day accounting processes while remaining hands-on with bookkeeping, project accounting, payroll support and office administration. You’ll be the primary internal resource for accounting matters, helping ensure accurate records, reliable reporting and timely completion of work.

Your responsibilities will include:

Oversee accounts payable and receivable, reviewing transactions, coding and supporting documentation for accuracy.

Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries and reconcile bank, credit card and vendor accounts.

Coordinate month-end close, financial reporting and year-end support for our external accountants.

Support job costing, progress billing, holdbacks, subcontractor documentation and project financial close-outs.

Support the Payroll Administrator with reconciliations, discrepancy resolution and year-end summaries.

Maintain accounting procedures and internal controls, guide employees and identify opportunities to improve processes.

Manage company permits, licences, qualifications and regulatory reporting, including MTO, CVOR, MNR and TOARC requirements.

Coordinate weigh-scale administration and training, operational reporting and related recordkeeping.

Coordinate IT providers, cleaning services, office supplies and general office support.

What We’re Looking For

At least five years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience , including month-end close, reconciliations and general ledger work.

A diploma in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bookkeeping certification is an asset.

Construction or project accounting experience and knowledge of job costing are preferred.

Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

The ability to review accounting work, coordinate deadlines and resolve discrepancies.

Strong attention to detail, sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial and employee information.

A practical, team-oriented approach and willingness to handle both accounting and office responsibilities.

Experience coordinating accounting processes or guiding other employees is an asset.

What We Offer

Competitive hourly compensation based on your experience and qualifications.

Benefits and matching pension contributions.

A stable, full-time position with an established local company.

The opportunity to work directly with operations and leadership and contribute to improvements in how we work.

A supportive, family-owned workplace where your efforts are noticed, valued and appreciated.
