We are driven to do more. More for our customers and the financial professionals who offer our products. If you are driven to do more and love the challenge of pursuing more, Athene is your kind of company. You will find we offer more than the basics to create an inclusive and dynamic work environment at our various locations.
Purpose & Impact:
Athene is seeking Actuarial Student Co-ops to join our Canadian Service Company in downtown Toronto. Athene is a leading retirement services company focused on helping individuals and institutions meet their retirement needs. Through our scale, culture of innovation and strategic relationship with Apollo, we offer students the opportunity to gain meaningful experience in a growing organization while working alongside experienced professionals across Canada, the U.S. and Bermuda.
The Actuarial Student Co-op will support one of several actuarial focus areas, which may include Experience Analysis, Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) Reporting, or CFT/Hedging. This opportunity is designed to provide hands-on exposure to actuarial analysis, reporting, financial processes and cross-functional collaboration. Start and end dates are flexible but will ideally encompass a minimum of four consecutive months in the summer of 2027.
Key Deliverables:
- Support actuarial analysis and reporting within an assigned area, including experience analysis, EBS reporting, cash flow testing, hedging or related actuarial activities.
- Gather, validate and analyze data; update Excel models and analytical inputs; compile outputs; and summarize results in a clear and presentable format for business leaders.
- Assist with recurring financial and actuarial processes, which may include derivative collateral monitoring, monthly collateral calculations and other reporting activities.
- Contribute to enhancing documentation, controls and processes to support an accurate, efficient and risk-aware operating environment.
- Apply critical thinking, creativity and emerging technology, including appropriate use of AI and automation tools, to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and the quality of analysis.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners on business priorities and ad hoc projects, demonstrating Athene’s BEAM values by engaging actively, acting like an owner and making it happen.
What You Need to Bring:
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with an interest in learning how actuarial analysis supports business decisions.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work independently, manage priorities and effectively meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience manipulating and analyzing large data sets is preferred. Exposure to Python, SQL, SAS or Power Query is an asset.
- Commitment to actuarial exam progress and curiosity about how AI and emerging technologies can appropriately support actuarial work, automation and productivity.
- Currently pursuing a four-year degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance or a related field.
