BAIN CAPITAL NORTH AMERICA PRIVATE EQUITY (NAPE) OVERVIEW
Bain Capital Private Equity has been one of the world’s leading private equity investors since 1984. We partner with management teams to build great companies, focusing on deep industry expertise, a differentiated sourcing model, and a rigorous investment process. The NAPE team covers investments across Technology, Healthcare, Business Services & Consumer, and Industrials verticals from our Boston headquarters, and is part of Bain Capital’s global PE platform spanning North America, Europe, and Asia.
WHY THIS ROLE IS UNIQUE
This role sits at the heart of one of the most ambitious AI transformation efforts underway in private equity. You’ll work directly with NAPE deal teams to redesign how they source, diligence, and make investment decisions using AI — not by telling them what to do, but by building things that make their work genuinely better and ensuring those tools actually get used. While fully dedicated to the NAPE business, you will be part of the larger Bain Capital Data Science & AI Team, a group of data scientists, AI engineers, product managers, and business analysts building AI products and driving key AI initiatives across all Bain Capital businesses. You’ll have the freedom to experiment, the visibility to influence senior decision-makers, and the opportunity to stay at the forefront of rapidly evolving AI technologies, all while helping transform how the team invests.
- Impact: Influence on how a multi-billion-dollar investment team works, with a mandate to innovate.
- Breadth: Exposure to every stage of the investment process and to senior investors from day one.
- Autonomy: Freedom to experiment, fail fast, and build what matters.
- Learning Curve: Continuous access to frontier AI technologies and real-world use cases few other environments can offer.
- Apprenticeship: You will learn and be mentored by top-tier AI practitioners and investors, offering great opportunities to grow your career and develop your skills at the intersection of AI and investing.
- Global footprint: The PE initiative spans NAPE, EU, and Asia. While based in Boston, in this role you will have the opportunity to travel and embed yourself with deal teams in London and across Asia as the initiative scales globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and deploy AI solutions to streamline all aspects of the investment process — from sourcing and market mapping to due diligence and portfolio analytics.
- Prototype and evaluate AI tools (LLMs, agents, data enrichment, automation frameworks, etc.) that can improve decision-making and team efficiency.
- Collaborate with investment professionals to identify high-value use cases, translate business needs into technical projects, and deliver functional tools.
- Collaborate with AI practitioners and teams across Bain Capital businesses to share learnings, codify best practices, build common AI tools to accelerate path to impact
- Manage pilots with leading AI vendors , evaluate their fit, and lead implementations when appropriate.
- Maintain and extend internal data pipelines , API connections, and tool integrations supporting the investment platform.
- Act as an internal “AI champion” — helping train the team on new capabilities and ensuring adoption of the most useful tools and workflows.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Technical aptitude — comfortable writing Python, working with APIs, and experimenting with AI models and data tools.
- Curiosity and experimentation mindset — someone who loves exploring new technologies and quickly figuring out what’s useful vs. hype.
- Structured problem-solving and ownership — you’ll often start from a loose idea and need to define, build, and deliver something tangible.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills — able to work cross-functionally with investment professionals, IT, research, data scientists/ engineers, and vendors.
- Grit and bias to action — someone who gets things done without overcomplicating.
- Team player — someone that thrives collaborating and contributing to a larger AI community of practice and helps create an environment of excellence for AI practitioners.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering or a quantitative, analytical field; MBA or advanced degree from a top program a plus.
- 3–5 years of professional experience, with a strong track record of delivering analytically complex, high-quality work; MBB or comparable top-tier firm is a plus.
- Experience with Python, data APIs, or lightweight web/app development a plus.
- Familiarity with LLMs, prompt engineering, vector databases, Agentic AI and workflow automation tools.
- Experience with Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or Google Gemini CLI
- Experience with Cursor, Windsurf, or other AI-centric IDEs
- Prior exposure to finance, investing, or data-heavy analysis environments helpful but not necessary.
