What you’ll be doing...
The Verizon Cyber Security (VCS) organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. VCS integrates cybersecurity governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services.
The Exposure & Vulnerability Management (EVM) Engineer is a critical part of the Verizon Cyber Defense Engineering team, dedicated to protecting Verizon against evolving cyber threats. Serving as a primary line of defense, you will be responsible for detecting, evaluating, and managing the resolution of security weaknesses throughout our international enterprise systems, software, and cloud-based infrastructures. This role bridges the gap between threat intelligence and IT operations, ensuring that vulnerabilities are identified and remediated before they can be exploited.
Key Responsibilities
- Vulnerability Detection & Assessment: Configuring, scheduling, and maintaining enterprise vulnerability scanning tools across global networks, cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), and application layers.
- Risk Evaluation & Prioritization: Analyzing scan results to validate vulnerabilities, filtering out false positives. Prioritize remediation efforts based on risk severity (CVSS), threat intelligence, asset criticality, and potential business impact.
- Remediation Management: Partnering with cross-functional IT, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure teams to drive the timely patching and remediation of identified security flaws.
- Continuous Improvement: Developing and automate vulnerability management workflows, integrating security checks.
- Reporting & Metrics: Design and generate executive-level and operational reports detailing current risk posture, remediation SLAs, and overall EVM program effectiveness.
- Threat Intelligence Integration: Staying up-to-date with zero-day vulnerabilities, the latest exploit techniques, and industry mitigation strategies to proactively defend the enterprise.
What we’re looking for …
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or two or more years of work experience
- Two or more years of experience in vulnerability management, security engineering, or a related cyber defense role.
- Hands-on administrative experience with enterprise vulnerability scanning platforms (e.g., Tenable, Crowdstrike, Fortify, Sonatype).
- Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and cloud architectures.
- Deep knowledge of vulnerability scoring systems and frameworks (CVSS, OWASP Top 10, MITRE ATT&CK).
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Certifications: Industry-recognized security certifications such as CompTIA CySA+, CEH, CISM, or cloud-specific security certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security, Azure Security Engineer).
- Scripting/Automation: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating data collection, tool integrations via APIs, and workflow orchestration.
- Scale: Prior experience operating within a large, highly distributed, international enterprise environment.
- Proactive self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of effectively translating complex technical risks into clear business impacts for non-technical stakeholders; demonstrates outstanding written and verbal communication and works well independently.
Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
